MLB: Cubs Acquire Jeff Baker...

This tells me 1 of 2 things:

1) This is insurance for Ramirez if he doesn't come back healthy
2) Hendry has no plans of making a deal to improve the 2b situation significantly (Freddy Sanchez, Brian Roberts, etc.)

My first thought was : "who the hell is Jeff Baker", and then I thought "why would the Cubs get another pitcher?"

It turns out he isn't a pitcher, but another infielder, and a 2nd baseman at that? Can he ride Space Mountain without his parents?

Isn't that why they got Freel? This guy is even worse than him.

This doesn't make any sense unless they are going to package him to make more of a major move. They have a bunch of extra infielders already...

I thought something similar. I'm having to look up all the guys in these trade rumors. But, I had to look up Aramis Ramirez, too, back in the day.

When Freel was re-habbing here in Des Moines he was quoted in the Register saying that he had talked to someone in the front office who had told him that the team wanted to trade him.

Or maybe it was Farney.

This is best attempt at getting a DeRosa-like player without giving up much, I think. Baker actually isn't a terrible asset to have around assuming they didn't give up something overly worth while to get him.

I was hoping you guys would get Teahen off our hands for us.
Would you give up Sean Marshall for him?

I wouldn't be too disappointed if Bradley, Miles, or Freel got traded no matter what the cubs got in return.

It is funny about Freel when he got plunked by the White Sox last sunday I was thinking, "Oh no they didn't. We're not going to take that- oh wait its just Freel who cares."

A healthy Baker is and upgrade over Freel, Miles, Scales, Blanco and possibly Fontenot. The problem though, is he healthy?

I don't really understand the move. Not sure what Hendry is thinking. Baker has a little more pop in his bat that those guys, but he's really only put up one decent season. Could be a play for next year. If that's the case, get Miles and Freel out of there, let Blanco get some more seasoning (though I don't think he's a long term answer), do what you will with Scales, and limit Fontenot's ABs, because he is not an every day player.

Apparently Teahen for Marshall and Fontenot (sp) was the deal this summer, before you guys signed Bradley.
Would have been nice for you guys, I'm not a big fan of Teahen but at least he can play five positions and hit a little. Would have been nice when Aramis went down.
