Crazy Scenario...Does ISU make it to the playoffs here?

Before anyone says anything, I know this is a crazy scenario, so I'm not posting to debate that. I just wanted to see what everyone here thinks about if this happens:

Current Playoff standings:
1. Alabama
2. ND
3. Clemson
4. Ohio State
5. TAMU
6. Florida
7. Cincy
8. Georgia
9. Iowa State

TAMU loses to Auburn this weekend (which I actually think will happen)
Florida loses one of either Tennessee or LSU
Ohio State doesn't play enough games (I believe the minimum is 6 and the B1G keeps cancelling games)
Georgia ends up making the SEC ship and gets blown out by Alabama
Cincy loses to Tulsa on December 12

ND also will play Clemson in the ACC 'ship. If Lawrence plays and ND blows out Clemson, there's a chance they could be knocked out as well if one of the above doesn't happen.

In a wacky scenario like this, does ISU make it (assume ISU wins against WVU and Oklahoma/Oklahoma State in the conference championship) to the CFB Playoff? I feel like this is the only scenario where we can pull this off.

They’ll move Georgia up for their loss to Alabama.

If we ever make the playoff, it will have to be when we are a stone cold, undefeated lock. They will sneak a team like a blue blood or one with more “football rich tradition” in before us in the scenario a #4 seed is up for grabs.

I don’t know, I think there’s a value to a unique team in it. I think I’ve maybe watched one playoff game ever, because I’ve had no interest in the teams that have been in it. But if you got a non-traditional school like BYU this year in it? I’d probably tune in to see how they do.
 
Be careful for what you ask for, because sometimes it happens. I hope Iowa State beats West Virginia and wins the Big Xii. Not interested in this glorious Iowa State team getting hammered by Alabama in the Sugar Bowl.

Short answer...... no, we wouldn't make it in with your scenario.

No matter what happens ahead of us, beating a mediocre WV team at home will not jump a team named Iowa State from 9 to 4. That's not how this "system" works.

I see your point, but beating WV THEN beating likely top 10 Oklahoma in the conference championship could move the needle a little.

No. But last night on the Louisiana game, the ESPN announcer said that if BYU beats Coastal Carolina then their odds to make the playoffs are 50-50. I don't know where ESPN is getting these odds, but they need to find better sources.

Iowa State is not getting in and BYU isn't getting in.

I feel like a team named Iowa State would have to go undefeated, or maybe have only one really good loss, in order to make it in.

We won't make it with losses to Louisiana and OSU.

I’m not sure it even takes the weird SEC losses.

First off I don’t think it happens because I think they will do whatever they need to do that OSU makes it. That said either your scenario happens or the format is going to change. There just is no way they get 2 SEC teams vs two ACC teams without causing people to freak out.

“I don’t want my team to have an opportunity to play for a championship because I’m too scared they’ll get beat badly” is a pretty awful sports take.

Every college football show has a list of ten teams they discuss every week. No one else gets more than a passing mention. This scenario is silly because they would just find a few other favorite teams to bring up.

In this particular case, I do not see the merit in Alabama stomping Iowa State 38-0 or 45-16 which would happen 10 out of 10 times and set Iowa State back. I would much prefer Big Xii Champion Iowa State go to and win the Cotton Bowl, finish (10-2) with a nice Top 5-ish ranking and set themselves up for a very special run next year. Sorry, but Alabama is going to drill some team in the four hole, and I would prefer it not be Iowa State.

That's why I threw in beating Oklahoma/Oklahoma State. Two victories over Oklahoma would be damn impressive. I fully agree that just beating WVU won't move us into 4th.
 
If we didn’t lose to Louisiana, I think we’d be in heavy consideration. I think the committee would try to diversify the group so that you don’t have two teams from the same conference. But with two losses, I don’t think so.

I think what you're saying is pretty dumb. Just a playoff birth for Iowa State will do wonders for the program. Oklahoma gets stomped every time they make the playoffs, but they're still considered one of the best programs every year. I'll gladly take a blowout loss to Alabama because it means we made it to the playoffs. You take what you can get because Oklahoma will be insanely good next year. While we have a heck of a team returning, Oklahoma has 10x the talent we do and there's no guarantee we will be able to beat Oklahoma next year.
