Anybody else think it's stupid the way the rules have played out in this superbowl? How can the penalty on Arizona for roughing the holder give Pittsburgh a 1st down while the hard core personal foul on Harrison during the punt is applied AFTER the play??? Seems kind of wrong to me...

There's been some pretty weak calls on both sides of the ball.

True, but I was just meaning the way the rules are written...seems dumb that a foul can happen during the play on 2 different plays and have one of them called back and the other result after the play...

How do you not review that play??

And no freaking kidding...within range to throw the ball to the endzone to win the game, and they don't find it necessary to review a questionable call??? What I was wanting to know is what they would have done if they reviewed it and gave it back to Arizona...would they have marched off the 15 yards for the personal foul after the recovery? My gut tells me they would have found a way to take away the penalty too...tough way to end the game...

Well, those are the rules of the game. You know what loser's do - blame the refs. Arizona f'd themseleves by committing stupid costly penalties. Harrison was smart enough to make his point without hurting his team.

You call punching someone on the ground smart!? For REAL!?

The facemask call on AZ was BS cuz they were both grabbing each others facemask so they should have called it both ways and cancelled each other out.

The most disappointing thing is now I'll have to listen and watch while commentators and ESPN folk talk about this for like a week while none of it will do anything good for the league.

The offensive player has more lattitude in grabbing facemasks than the defensive player.

Punching and shoving and getting into a guy who is on the ground is smart? And when he starts walking the other way and shoving him down again? Are you kidding me? Yep must be a smart player. He's a thug and a punk.

You don't think he said something to deserve what he got? Quit the Squawkesque whining. Steelers win. Ha. Ha. Ha.

Hey, I'm a Dolphins fan. I was out of this thing long ago but just couldn't believe you were actually proud of a player who punches people while they are on the ground. I also didn't do any whining. I could say stop your boasting though.

Must be a big man to gloat about a Superbowl winner after it's over and your team wasn't even involved....How'd the Packers do in the playoffs this year jackass?

On the punt and the personal foul on Pitt. It is called PSK (post scrimmage kick) meaning it is a loose ball foul. Once that ball went over the expanded neutral zone it is a loose ball, Arizona does not have possesion anymore. That is why the official must throw a bean bag where the ball is first caught by the receiving team. Because that is where the PSK ends, and encorcement then occurs from there.
Also, he should throw the bean bag there in case this situation happens. Let's say Arizona punted and touched the ball at the 10 (didn't down it, just touched it) and Pitt picked it up and ran it to the 50 where he fumbled the ball and recovered by Arizona. Pitt has the choice to get the ball back at the 10 where first touching occured.

On the roughing the holder- The rule is very similar to roughing the passer. The passer, the holder, and the kicker have protection. You can not hit them!!!
Same difference if the QB throws a pick and it is "roughed" after he throws it. Personal foul, roughing the QB. offense gets the ball back.

Agree with this as the holder is pretty defenseless after the ball has been kicked and he is looking up to see where the ball is headed. The Cardinal was obviously going to make a point with the hit. I do not have any problem with that call.

Disagree. I saw a player with a full head of steam that couldn't slow down or change direction and just ran him over... he didn't try pushing him down or lowering his shoulder. The holder did some acting on that play.
