JFC. My new coworker wears waaaaaaay too much cologne. It's gagging me when I breath too deep. What can I say that isn't too passive aggressive or d*ckish?

Tell him he smells like a French ***** house. That should get your point across.

(Don't actually do that.)

If his manager is a tactful person I might let them know that it's bothering me and he might be able to give him a heads up.

go up to him and say you think he smells nice and what cologne is he wearing. build a relationship before you criticize him for something he probably isn't aware of.
Build that relationship and trust.... then just rip him down hard about how he wears too much cologne, but it'll be cool because it's just friends being buds.

So in other words hit on him?

Well if that's not the type of attention he's looking for, then maybe he will cool it a bit with the cologne.

I would honestly say to talk to his manager. If it were a hygiene issue, it would be a valid HR situation, so overpowering cologne smell should be something they can talk to him about.

Most professional way to handle it is to leave a Post-It on his desk letting him know it's too strong.

Or..you could send out a company wide email from someone who left their computer logged in saying that this person stinks.

Secretary wears way too much perfume some days. Gags me. I;m not close enough to her to matter unless she picks up files in my office. I get headaches almost instantly from that crap.

Men still wear cologne? Dudes, it's all in the pheromones.Don't mask them.

More than cologne it's these excessive laundry scent boosters that bother me. Don't know how they became so popular. Or why people wish to show up to work smelling like a laundry room.

We use Free and Clear detergent for that reason and because all those perfumes are bad for your skin.
