Converting wood burning fireplace to gas - Help.

We have a wood buring fireplace that is hopefully going to be converted to gas sooner than later. I am just curious about anyone's experiences with this in the Urbandale/Des Moines area. Cost, Company to use, where to even start with the whole process, etc. I am also considering doing tile over the old brick that is currently there to update it but I am thinking about trying to do that with a little help from friends/family.

Do you have a gas line anywhere nearby? My wood burner has the gas starter which I think will make my conversion fairly easy. Looking forward to the advice as well :smile:

Personally I would leave the wood burning fireplace in. Grew up with a wood burning fireplace, currently have a gas fireplace. Wood > Gas IMO.

I'm in the exact same situation except we have two wood burners with gas lighting. Thinking about converting but not sure where to start.

Not really the case in my situation. 25 acres of timber wood... supply was never a problem.

Having lots of firewood doesn't make a wood-burning fireplace any more efficient.
