I checked the KC forums and didn't see this mentioned.

Just got a call from my mother-in-law and she said there is road construction in a couple of places on I-35 south of Des Moines. A short stint in one place that narrows to one lanes, and two-way traffic for 10 miles or so in another spot.

Plan accordingly.

I am down in KC now and it was a major hassle getting through three different spurts of one-lane traffic (2 in Iowa, 1 in Missouri) where there were times we were only going 15-20 mph. Plan plenty of time ahead because I'm sure it will be even worse with all the late Cyclones heading down to Kansas City.

Glad we took Hwy 69 to Osceola. Smooth sailing. We were debating whether or not to detour before leaving the metro, but sounds like I'm glad we did.

The major construction zones on I35 are just south of Des Moines for 5-6 miles, then again for 12 miles starting in Osceola heading south, and lastly for about 10 miles starting in Cameron, Missouri heading south. .

Looks like I'm gonna take 35 until I'm out of Des Moines, then hop on 69 all the way to Lamoni.

I don't know about the addition of the game day traffic today, but it really hasn't been that bad for us going to and coming back from games in Ames.
