Among other online newspapers, I read the Iowa City Press-Citizen, since that's my hometown. Today's front-and-center headline article is shown below.

Growing up there, I am well aware what little concern many Hawk fans have for minutiae such as 'spelling', 'grammar', or 'literacy', but I thought that was why their mascot's name was spelled almost phonetically- so that the unwashed masses could manage to spew it out correctly. Apparently it's too much of a task for even the degree-holding professionals in their graphics department. Perhaps "Herkee" would be more palatable?

At least the article was fairly well-written.

Am I missing something?

House of Herky

A Report Card on UI Athletics

That all looks fine to me

I'm lost as well - Herky is spelled wrong is that what you're trying to say with all those words? how is it supposed to be spelled?

My guess would be that originally it was misspelled but they fixed it so the link he used for the picture changed as well

I found this far more compelling:

Unless you're British, you would do well to place certain commas inside the preceding quotation marks.

Just sayin'.

Correct. I wasn't sure if that's the way it would work, so here's a screen cap I took as proof.

You took screen shots as "proof" of a typo? Wow. Not obsessed with the pukeyes at all, huh?

Sorry if you think I spelled "pukeyes" wrong.
