Judge -- NFL, players settle concussion suit - ESPN

That's pretty huge. Obviously the league is not going to admit that they withheld information about the dangers of concussions from the players, but that's certainly the conclusion that a lot of people are going to draw from this.

One of the principal terms of the settlement is that the agreement "cannot be considered, an admission by the NFL of liability, or an admission that plaintiffs' injuries were caused by football."
Yeah sure, I'm sure they just decided to pay $700 million because they're nice people.

Now they need to make all current NFL players sign waivers on health issues - offer insurance to tenured players for life - and get back to letting people tackle someone without it being a $20,000 fine.

"The NFL has 20 years to pay the full amount of the settlement, but half of the total must be paid within the first three years and the rest over the next 17 years." Probably a drop in the bucket for the mighty NFL.

As much as I wish they'd do this, they're not going to. Targeting rules are going to be here for a while. So far, despite all the grumbling and gnashing of teeth, it hasn't affected their ratings in the slightest.

yeah, $765 million is not quite the cost of a single stadium.

I heard the payments were along the lines of $4 mil for the first few years, then $700k for the rest. The NFL got off easy on this.

I'd like to know how much the attorneys are pocketing on this deal.

Sounds like a few prominent media members think the NFL got off easy...but they don't go much beyond that...how much should the NFL be responsible for? (NOTE: not informed enough to state the NFL paid too much or not enough?)
