Conan O'Brien is a class act.... I liked him before, but after reading that I like him even more...
Yea, if you saw his speech on his last night on Late Night I don't know how you can't feel a little heartbroken for what's happening to the guy.
I meant class act how he is stepping down to preserve the Tonight Show, not for taking it gracefully.
And I did hear everything he said, and quite frankly, thought it was hilarious. He has a right to be ******, they only gave him 7 months! Leno was behind Letterman in rating for like his first two years or something and they didn't try to bring back Carson.
The problem seems to be affiliates not liking whats going on with Leno's show. Well, I am no rocket surgeon, but I could have told you that a 9 p.m. talk show wasn't going to work out. You have to compete with CBS' highly rated 9 o'clock line up. It just wasn't going to work.
If Conan had kept the ratings lead over Letterman that Leno had built, this wouldn't be happening.
It's a ratings business, and simply put, Leno beats Letterman, and Letterman beats Conan.
As Jerry Seinfeld said this week, once NBC puts the cameras on you, it's up to you.

And I don't care what Leno says, he's happy. That guy is a backstabber.
If Jay hadn't weaseled his way into an ill-conceived 9:00 talk show he would have been given as much time to correct that problem as Jay was when he started.
I don't know if it's fair to say weaseled. NBC didn't have any other programming for the slot, and putting Jay there was much cheaper. NBC just royally screwed this up.
Does he get that show if he doesn't have the threat of moving to ABC in his pocket? Giving a host, who told you he was going to retire, a new show in a traditionally drama-filled timeslot was unprecedented. He really is the Brett Favre of late night.
NBC basically forced Leno to retire so Conan could take over. I think NBC started to really have second thoughts about it but by that time it was too late they already had a deal with Conan. So, NBC came up with the terrible idea of the Jay Leno Show and Leno agreed since he really had no other options at that point.
