A friend of mine recently attended the Jayhawk Invitational AAU Tournament in Lawrence, KS, and about 3,000 KU fans came out to support Harrison. He was apparently the talk of the town all weekend. As has been posted here previously, his team won the tournament and he was named MVP. Next weekend, there is a tournament here at the new Kingdom Hoops facility (3305 SE Delaware). How cool would it be for ISU fans to come out and match the enthusiasm shown by KU fans. See below for more information:

The USSSA Midwest Festival of Teams has become one of the best spring events in the Midwest. Last year 91 teams from Iowa, Missouri, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, and Oklahoma attended the event. Many of the top travel programs in the country use this event as a summer warm up. This year we are combining all age groups into one weekend. The event will be open to 11U, 12U, 13U, 14U, 15U, 16U and 17U Boys teams. We look forward to another great event and hope to see you on the court. *Event Proceeds donated to the Kingdom Hoops Basketball Foundation*
Tournament:USSSA Midwest Festival of Teams
Date:May 15-17, 2009
Where:Ankeny, Iowa ("New" Kingdom Hoops Facility)
Ages:11U-17U Boys Teams

And there is no way that building seats 3,000, I would be surprised if there were more than 20 folding chairs. It is a converted insulation storage company.

I don't think his point was to have 3000, but just to show that our fan base cares too.

And there were 91 teams in the tournament last year so they have got to have room for quite a few people

If anybody is interested the schedules are out for this. Here is the site w/the list of events hosted by the All Iowa Attack Events

Also, if any of you know whether Harrison is on the Black or Red team please post it here for the rest of us.

ISU fans supported him for the last 2 years by attending all his HS games around the state. I think that says a lot.

I dont think there were 3000 fans... Most of the gym that they used were pretty small (less than 1000 seats).... But it would be nice to support HB though!

I'm just curious, who were the other Iowa kids on Harrison Barnes' team that won the tournament in Lawrence. Was this Sullivan's Attack team? To win a strong AAU tournament of that nature, you can't be a "one man band." Are there other D1 type players surrounding him?

Gosh, and instead of spending an hour talking about the NHL playoffs or another mindless baseball player who is using the "juice," , maybe a local sports talk show should dedicate some time to talking about the tournament coming to Ankeny and who fans can see. Maybe bring Jake in and spend a half hour or more talking about some midwest talent we might be hearing about on ESPN over the next three or four years.

Thanks for the info, Tornado. Far be it for our "local" sports stations to provide any information on the event.
