I checked three pages back on Cyclone Fanatic and didn't see one game thread. I'm not sure if I missed something, or this really is the first thread on the game. I don't have any insight on this game, but I'm looking to see the discussion started here guys. I need more actual basketball talk after watching football this year.

What are everyone's thoughts on what they saw last Friday, and what specifics does everyone have on the Buffs?

These ought to keep you busy for awhile.

It looks like Colorado did not play an exhibition game. So this will be their first (public) action of the year.

They went 16-18 (7-11) last year in the Pac-12.

They return 4 of their top 5 minutes-getters from last year and 6 of their top 8. It looks like the big gun is Josh Scott, a 6'10'' senior forward who averaged 14.5 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 1.8 blocks a game last year. It should be a good test to see McKay work against him.

This game isn't really as much about ISU as it is about CU. I don't think anybody knows how good they are, except maybe Tad Boyle. Their two bigs would play anywhere in the B12, and they have good players on the wings. PG is a question mark, but if they're okay there, you're talking about a bubble team.

ISU should win this game, but I think it's going to be a battle.

Agree and like most games we play this year, our opponents will have nothing to lose and we'll have alot to lose. Cool being on this side of things for the past few years

CF could be a very interesting place Friday night.

They also have a providence transfer, I think a guard named fortune, who'll be eligible. They certainly won't have the team chemistry going that we have, they'll have some new pieces

Live just down the road from Boulder. CU returns 4 of their top 6. Scott is a good inside guy with a good post game. 6'11" and very long arms. Wesley Gordon is a talented big man at 6'9". Dominique Collier was their top recruit last year and a bit of a disappointment. Offered out of HS by a lot of schools including Az. Xavier Talton is a solid guard and a senior. Will play point at least part of the time. Xavier Johnson is a stud but, I think, still injured.
Several, other very talented players on the roster (Tory Miller 6'9" and Tre'Shaun Fletcher a 6'7" wing). Josh Fortune is the 6'5" transfer from Providence. They like him. They also have a transfer from U of Co / Co Sp that I saw play in HS and was surprised he didn't go D-1 then. Boyle is a very good coach and an excellent recruiter. If we beat these guys , I will be happy. If we beat them handily, I will be very impressed.

as a CU season ticket holder of 20+ years, I'm not nearly as impressed with CU as you are. Scott is very solid, but Wesley Gordon needs to up his game offensively. Collier has struggled at PG and might lose PT to the freshman from Europe. Talton will get eaten up by Morris. The Buff wings are a huge question mark IMO. Xavier Johnson is hurt and the transfer from CU-CS isn't eligible so they won't play. That leaves Josh Fortune to be the #2 threat offensively and the only 3pt threat. The next two wings are TreShaun Fletcher who can defend but is spotty offensively, and George King who redshirted last season, but played sparingly two years ago.
Unless the Cyclones go dreadfully cold on offense, I will be surprised if this is very close late.

I will admit. My initial reaction when I had seen Colorado was our first opponent was that of concern because Colorado is a good team. But Iowa State is better than good, they are going to be an outstanding team with explosive three-point shooters who can bury good opponents quickly. The more I think about it, the more I believe Iowa State will win comfortably. 15-20 point range victory.

4:00 PM on A Friday is ok with me. I can get to my house by tip-off, watch the game, then drive down to my parents to do chores and stay the night and then head up to the game on Saturday morning. Not bad, not bad at all.

I couldn't be less concerned. We could definitely lose but it will be the players' fault and not because Colorado is better.

I suppose some quick whistles on our bigs could lead to doom.

McKay needs to move his feet and stay down most of the time and try not to block every shot. Especially if their post player is their best player and is 6'11. I can see us going zone a lot in this game.
