I see in the new Flo rankings he has moved up to #6 at 220. Where does he project at in college? Never seen him in person. Does he have the height to add weight for HWT?

Just curious what others expectation are.

I would say he’s more a 197.

Btw, great family. Always talked to his dad at youth tourneys. Our kids never wrestled even though they were in the same bracket

Cody was one of eight Iowa wrestlers featured in a Des Moines article yesterday:
https://www.desmoinesregister.com/s...-to-watch-this-summer-cael-happel/1131097001/

Cody Fisher, Woodward-Granger
Fisher has consistently been one of the state’s best wrestlers. He’s a three-time state finalist and won his first title in February at 220 in 2A. He’s also a past Cadet double All-American, finishing seventh in freestyle and eighth in Greco-Roman following his freshman year in 2017.

Fisher is committed to Iowa State and is ranked No. 7 nationally at 220 pounds. He also won both Junior freestyle and Greco state titles last weekend. A strong summer, which he says will include Junior Duals and the Junior national championships, could lift him into Flowrestling’s top 100 in the 2020 class.

184 or 197, depends on what his best opportunity to start is. Colbray was a 220 in high school and then leaned out in college. Cody has a very similar build and I could see him making 184 if he got really serious about diet and nutrition.

Initially I saw Broderson listed as 197. Now that has changed and he is projecting at 184. Where do you guys see him settling in?

184 but I think these types of kids will always fit in where they can get in. If they see their best path to the line-up is 184, they will lean out. If they think it's 197, they will bulk up. I think guys like Michael Macchiavello showed that you can win at 184/197 without being a high-level recruit. There are plenty of others who have had success too lately. Dedication to the sport at the upper weights can result in an AA for any of these guys we have at 184/197.

It's still early in his career, but Tanner Sloan from Alburnett had major success in his true freshman season, making the Midlands finals and beating Josh Hokit and Jacob Warner on the way there.

I think sometimes it's just hard to tell which guys will translate well to college wrestling at that weight. I don't think Sloan was even a top-20 guy at his weight coming out of high school.

Shapiro isn’t a big 197 pounder, but will go there as long as Colbray stays at 184. After that he may go back to 184 if he doesn’t fill out.
These will factor where Broderson & Fisher ultimately go early in their career
From the Jr Open it looks like he is filling out. He wrestled 92kg, which is 202lbs. I think he could be an average size 197 his freshman year and if he continues to lift he can fill out the weight pretty easy.

Agree. I think he told me he was around 203 when I briefly talked to him in Pittsburgh

Jacob Holschlag moved up mid-season his freshman year after he couldn't beat Foster. He went on to qualify as an undersized 197 and then placed 5th the next year at Nationals. I hope Shapiro stays at 197 - he has the length to grow into it.

Fisher’s build kind of reminds me of Big Z. Short and powerful with huge lower body. Fisher weighs around 225 right now and is pretty solid. He could be either 197 or 285 based on where his best fit is.
Shapiro is in the 205-210 range right now and is doing a great job putting on “good weight”

I have learned to trust the judgment of two talent leaders in sports—Jeff Lunhow with our Houston Astros and our Kevin Dresser with our Cyclone wrestling team. They are very similar in many ways—extraordinary ability in evaluating the talent and then putting the talent in the right place to succeed. It’s all about judgment. And we have that on our side in ISU wrestling. I am very bullish about our future—sooner that many people think.

That was also an example of poor in state evaluation. Hunter DeJong, a kid we did recruit/land who was fairly well thought of because of his showings at national tournaments, wrestled him in the finals. It wasn't even close. I understand people around Alburnett weren't always happy with his attitude, but that's a major miss for in state coaches who got to see him beat up on their recruits at the state tournament.

DeJong a miss = maybe, we did sign the kid from Scott West (MN) Besugens sp? that pinned Sloan in the first period of a dual in Sloans senior year. I think our recruiting is fine, but time will tell.

Tanner Sloan was a big miss by the 3 in State Schools. Guy is a beast. Have to wonder if he stays there after The coaching change.

Wasn't Dejong a walk-on or a very low scholly guy? Let's see what Tanner does wrestling Varsity this year. (Didn't he redshirt and wrestle unattached last year?)

I would think that the coaching staff might be better for him. Hahn, Simaz, Rotert are all big guys on staff and should be able to do good things with Sloan. Reader would have been great with Sloan also.

Be interesting to see if the team as a whole develops. I would think that might end up being the reason he would transfer.
