*** COACHING SEARCH THREAD: Sunday, June 7 ***

I considered starting a separate thread for this -- but I won't. (If someone feels it's worth it, go ahead & copy this).

Here’s a list of (1) serious contenders for ISU's next coach (those doing actual interviews this weekend) and (2) those presented as possibilities, either by media, fans or both, within the past month. Several had only isolated mentions, and a couple probably aren’t serious.

I came up with 25. Going by memory here — add others that I omitted.

T.J. Otzelberger
Bryce Drew
Steve Prohm
Brad Underwood
Jeff Hornacek
Chris Mack
Archie Miller
Tim Floyd
Larry Eustachy
Leon Rice
Lindsey Hunter
Tad Boyle
Gregg Marshall
Dana Altman
Nick Nurse
LeVelle Moton
Mark Few
Larry Krystkowiak
Jamie Dixon
Kareem Richardson
Andy Enfield
Becky Hammon
Greg Lansing
Larry Shyatt
Buzz Williams

My hope is the "National Brand" is someone that matches ISU's brand under Johnny and Fred. CW any chance you can dig up a list of coaches that fit that brand.

Performance next year Is also imperative. Results next year will paint a picture for recruits. It will say you can acheive this kind of success at ISU.

Sort of..as much success and national attention that our program has received in the last several years I would have sworn we would be bringing in many stud Hs recruits and we havent brought in really any. Sad. Maybe it's because the last two years Fred and the staff put all their eggs into two players total.

Maybe it is because high school players prefer to have confidence that the head coach will actually be there for most/all of their 4 years.

Fred backed off committing to HS players after Monte and Matt and the HS results showed it.

I think that along with 2 months with basically no head coach will result in a huge crater in our roster after 2016 and essentially put us in a position where we will be back to pre-Fred talent levels next April.

Whoever the next coach is will have to rely on Juco's and transfers heavily in the next 12 months to fill roughly 8 open spots.

That will hopefully buy us enough time to allow our recruiters to lay the foundation for the 2017 class.

A little bit of NN offensive philosophy. Btw..his NBA D teams were one of the top in offensive possessions and efficiency.

“We kind of run a system where if you can handle it in the open floor and grab it off the glass you can bring it. We run a four out system, so you have to find the opening and which spot isn’t filled. It doesn’t matter if you’re a corner, wing or trail man. So he can fit in with that, we want to keep the ball in his hands. He delivers a lot of passes. The best way to do that is for him to rebound and bring it. I think that will showcase his talents the best.”

And another from Toronto's HC: sounds an awful lot like a coach we just had...

“Nick Nurse has come in and done an unbelievable job figuring out sets and bringing in a different type of offence, a more up-tempo type of offence,” Lowry said. “Jesse and Bayno? Their energy has been great. Their enthusiasm and pushing everybody to keep being aggressive and shooting shots and making sure that even if they miss a few, it don’t matter, just

I am trying to recall when Otzelberger left. Can you help me?

I can't believe these 3 mid-major coaches are the best candidates we can drum up. This is not a sign that it's a better job than pre-hoiberg.

Did you have the expectation that Power 5 conference coaches from successful programs were going to be beating down our door in late May/early June?

Stormin Murray St was 16-0 in West and EKU and Belmont were 11-5 tied in East this yr Murray St won the outright conf title in 2015

That is NOT how it works. Murray State won their Division in 2015. That is it. They did not win the Conference Championship. They won a Divisional Championship.....despite being undefeated.

Each team in your own division was played TWICE. While teams in the other division were played only ONCE.

Kind of like back in the days when we had the Big 12 North and the Big 12 South Division in Football. You could win your division with an undefeated record. But that did not make you the Champion of the Conference......you were ONLY the Division Champion.

Not a difficult thing to grasp.......for most people.

You are dead wrong again. By your logic we only won 2 Big 12 North Regular Season titles under Eustachy...the trophies in our trophy case say otherwise.

Please stop.

But by his logic Kansas hasn't won 11 titles in a row. I think I'm understanding him now and feel bad for being so ******* stupid. He's right and we are all wrong. Storming is the best poster in the world.

You are dead wrong again. By your logic we only won 1 regular season title under Eustachy. Please quit.

LOL. There were NO divisions in basketball in the Big 12 in those years. Divisions in Football but not in basketball. But the Ohio Valley HAS Divisions in Basketball. An East Division and a West Division.

Perhaps this visual will make it more understandable for you.

Oh there weren't? We just coincidentally played all the Big 12 North schools twice each year, and the Big 12 South schools once?...try again...or better yet for your reputation's sake, don't.

You are dead wrong again. By your logic we only won 2 Big 12 North Regular Season titles under Eustachy...the trophies in our trophy case say otherwise.

Actually, the Big 12 (with 12 teams) used the FB divisions to determine playing once vs twice in MBB and WBB, but was not actually divided into two divisions, it was kept as one 12 team division.

True. That is exactly the point I am making.

Did you have the expectation that Power 5 conference coaches from successful programs were going to be beating down our door in late May/early June?

No, but I thought there might be some middle ground for a guy like Dana Altman at least. I won't be excited about any of those mid-major guys. I'd rather get Otzelberger or Nurse.

We were not formally in divisions.

But of course, none of this matters. Don't let Stormin's fallacies get everyone sidetracked. They had a hell of a year, one that points to proficiency as a head coach. Titles are fairly meaningless in this sense- what we really want to know is do his teams consistently play at a high level. 16-0 and no title is just as good as 12-4 with a title imo.

You know JP and Co will grill him on his plan to get Big 12 players to Ames.

Better check your sources - Peery was not retained by HC Bobby Hurley when he took the ASU job...

Altman is not a middle ground guy.

There are very few P5 to P5 coaching changes, and basically none in June.
