Coaches pick ISU to finish 8th in conference

Meh. The only coaches opinion that matters or is even in the know is CFH. The other coaches have no idea what ISU is capable doing this year.
 
makes sense to me. better than OU and Tech, but not enough to say we're better than KSU/OSU and the consensus top5 (KU, MO, A&M, Bay, TX).

i think we do much better, but the preseason polls don't bother me.
 
I didn't realize A&M has been to 6 straight NCAA tourneys. In my mind, they suck at basketball - an impression that remains from my college years at ISU when they did actually suck. They've hit homeruns with their previous two coaching hires - their luck has to run out at some point, right?

I think what you're saying is true of the media and their predictions, but you're not giving the coaches enough credit. I'm guessing each coach knows the roster of every other team in the league pretty well.
 
plus there's lots of gamesmanship in the rankings, you can't vote for your own team. so who gave a first place vote to missouri? self? I could see that.

also, coaches hate scott drew, so despite having the most talent, he gets picked 3rd, which is kind of funny.

Not really. There are 7 new faces this year that have not played for ISU yet. The only way they'd truely know what ISU was capable of this year is if they were to have been sitting in on practices. I'm pretty sure that's not the case.

Scott Drew is a crappy game coach. Great recruiter ($), but can't seem to keep up with the speed of the game.
 
I'm done complaining about pre-season rankings after being outraged at being picked to finish 12th last year...

I'll wait to see what we look like on the court.
