Saw a couple of tweets of Coach Dan and the letterwinners. Thought they were worth sharing. Some great memories of that era, Troy Davis, the first school bowl win in 2000 etc.

$123K to ISU Athletics with a note honoring Mac. The beneficiary is ISU, the honorarium is Mac. Sort of like a donation I make each year to my late parents favorite charity as a honorarium to them.
Some of the money is going toward the letterwinners suite...I'm not sure where or what it is...I saw it mentioned in other tweets.
Great motivator and coach for college football. Players would run thru walls for Coach Mac!

I have been fortunate to meet Coach Mac several times. What an amazing human being.
A few years ago, I emailed him while he was at North Texas. A friend and I drove down for a TCU vs ISU game.
After the ass kicking TCU gave us, we drove up to Denton and he gave us a tour of their remodeled stadium.
Such a true gentleman.

I believe it. Was talking with a former iowa player who played for coach mac, he said when he got covid and was struggling, coach called him everyday he was sick to encourage and motivate him. This guy hasn't played for coach for over 30 years and coach called him everyday, for months.
Coach Mac's speech at the Gridiron Club/Lettermans Club event on Thursday was half praise for his players and half pumping up Coach Campbell. It was awesome.
The first time I heard Coach Mac speak was during a rehearsal at the stadium. The band was tired and sore from practicing all day.
This guy gets up on the ladder and starts talking. His energy and enthusiasm was infectious. By the end of his speech, all I could think was this man could get anyone excited and charged about doing just about anything. I bet he could get you absolutely pumped about cleaning a toilet bowl with a toothbrush.
How incredibly lucky we are that ISU had that guy as a coach and leader.

South endzone 2002? I think I saw the same speech. The bleachers and scoreboard were new that year...
Aside from actually getting to a point where ISU was at least bowl eligible for quite a few years, the upgrades to the stadium and atmosphere imo were vital to Mac's tenure.
Can't see UT letter winners doing same for Herman, Strong or Sark 20 years from now.
It was August of 1995, before his first game as the head coach. He wanted to talk to the marching band before the season.
The football team never beat Iowa or went to a bowl game while I was in school. The man’s charisma and enthusiasm for ISU just resonates with me to this day.
Maybe have Coach Mac give the locker room talk before the Iowa Game?
