Thinking of trying Centro out in Des Moines while i'm around, Does anyone have parking recommendations or any insight into whether reservations are needed or not? Thanks

parking on the streets at meters after 6pm is free. there should be spaces available, i would assume. If you are going for a friday or saturday night, reservations wouldn't be a bad idea.

Parking is never an issue. You'll be able to find a spot on the street....probably not right in front, but no further than a block or two at the most. Meters are free after 6 on weekdays, free all the time on weekends.

Great food. Great atmosphere. You didn't say what day you were going, so hard to say if reservations are necessary or not.

One of my favorite places in Des Moines. We always park in the lot that's kitty corner from Centro. It's open after 6PM as well.

Went to Django last week for the first time as well, and probably have to put it just as high as Centro. Gotta love a place that lets you bring your own wine w/no corking fee.

I've never understood the infatuation with Centro. Don't get me wrong, it's very good, but I wouldn't classify it as one of my favorite places in Des Moines.

Maybe I just have a soft spot in my heart for little hole in the wall places with great food.

Django is great too. Same group runs it as runs Centro.

Oh, I love those kinds of places too (B&B, George the Chili King, Manhattan Deli, Uncle Wendell's etc), but as far as places to go for that whole classy dining experience, Centro is great. I don't go there (or places like it) all the time, but there's a time and place for it.

George Fomaro, right? Aren't they involved w/Gateway Market?

Tried Jethros for the first time a few weeks back and LOVED it. Centro is definitely on my list of places I want to hit up soon

Jethro's is one of my favorite restaurants in DSM. It covers so many bases and does them well. Fantastic BBQ, and a great bar atmosphere too, along w/solid drinks and good specials. Love Jethros.

Actually if you are a wine drinker, Django has an advantage as they DONT CHARGE A CORKING FEE (ever) so you can bring your own wine bottleS, you bill is significantly lower..

I think that's what he was saying.

Yeah. I am a wine drinker, so I like that aspect of Django. Now that we have Trader Joes, I can bring a bottle of Charles Shaw to dinner @ Django and spend half as much $ on the entire bottle as a glass would cost off of the wine list.

Hey Al,

As a wine drinker, what do you think of Sbrocco? My wife is a big fan, but I wasn't too blown away. I would definitely put it below both Centro and Django as far as Downtown fine-dining goes.
