You Ankeny clones who are easily star struck by sports stars like me might find this interesting. We were golfing at Otter Creek yesterday and talked to the 4some ahead of us a few times, and they were 3 olympians and a coach. 2 of the guys were Renaldo Nehemiah and Harvey Glance, and the 3rd was a gold medal winner from Britain who's name I forgot. For you younger Clones Nehemiah was the top high hurdler in the world during the late 70's and went on to play receiver for the 49ers, getting a superbowl ring. Glance was an elite sprinter during the late 70's and early 80's, winning Olympic gold and other world gold medal competitions. They were great guys to talk to and really cool watching these former world class athletes playing a round on our local golf course.

You never know. I'm pretty sure Glance used to be the track coach at Alabama. But they were in town for the nationals at Drake, and I forgot to ask them if they usually get together for this event or if they are getting honored or something.

I once saw (the late) Frank Gorshin at the Stapleton Airport. My only celebrity encounter I'm sad to say. And no, I did not get "The Riddler's" autograph.

I saw Jennifer Aniston with her then-boyfriend Tate Donovan at LAX in 1997. Later on the same trip saw Bo Jackson at O'Hare.

Once in CR, Hall & Oates played on the tennis court next to me when they were in town for a concert.

EDIT: Jennifer Aniston was on my list of "5 celebrities I'm allowed to sleep with" at the time.

I just got an image of Hall & Oates jamming to Rich Girl on a tennis court...

I was sitting at an airport bar in O'Hare years ago when I realized I was sitting next to the Atlanta Rhythm Section.

Also saw Danny Mac getting his shoes shined at Denver airport.

Sean Connery at a swanky L.A. golf resort and he wouldn't give me a damn autograph.

The same thing happened to me when I saw Kareem Abdul Jabbar at an airport and when I asked him for an autograph he looked at me like I was an idiot. But then I didn't have anything in my hands for him to sign. I felt like an idiot.

Earlier this year my family and I took a trip to Mexico for vacation and one night all of us "kids" decided to walk the beach and came up on a concert. Snoop Dog was performing, so we got a free pass to the concert since it was so close to the beach.

I'll bet it was Roger Murdach, not Kareem, that's why he was at the airport.

I saw these two/this one at o'hare a couple of years back.

The most famous person i ever ran into frequently was the best college running back ever...>Troy Davis....If you've never seen troy, let me say, he had the biggest thighs ive ever seen on a human...simply tree trunks from his waist to the ground...man that dude had some power!!!

Some other not as famous people...

Was at the Grand Opening of the Dan Gable wrestling museum in waterloo, and was standing near Dan when Barry Zito came into the gathering. He wanted to hear Gable talk about his drive, what was it that allowed him to simply focus on everything the way he did....the next night i saw him on ESPN signing a 126 million dollar contract with San Francisco....Crazy....

Two weeks ago, was in Dallas. While going through the security check point at airport, saw a rather large man walk up behind me to wait his turn in the line. I turned around and at my eye level read SMU Basketball, it was on the front of his t-shirt about moob height. As i looked up, instantly recognized that it was George Lynch that played at North Carolina. Chatted with him for a minute, he's now the strength and conditioning coach at SMU with Larry Brown. The connection probably occurred when George played for Larry Brown at Philly.

Anyways, he was a big big man.....

As far as females....my wife and i saw and rode the air plane(different seat classes though) from Dallas to San Antonio with Eva Longoria. Ironic, we were at the overbooked flights gate waiting like an hour before the flight to ensure we didnt get bumped....she showed up approximately 2-3 minutes before first class boarded and had a hat on the size of a mexican sombrero that she shielded her appearance from her desperate housewife fans....Her assistant was working her arse off though.....

Also seen Elton Brand in Vegas, and Penny Hardaway in New York - he was carrying his xrays and was on cruthces and people were still asking him to get their pictures taken with him.....but thats about it.

Buddy Ebson of the Beverly Hillbillies at a grocery store in San Fransisco. Also we are camped beside Brittany Borman and her family at Adventureland Campground. Brittany is a USA Olympian javelin thrower and she's here for the USA Track and Field Championships. Her Dad, sister and grandparents are here to see her perform. Edit: she won the senior women's javelin throw tonight by 14 feet further than the second place lady.

Also met Greg LeMond at the 1985 Coors Classic Bicycle Tour. He won the race that year and he autographed a Coors Classic T-shirt for me and I still have it.

Here is my only celebrity story.

Back during the summer of either 90 ro 91 I was working with my brother in Nashville,Tennessee over break. We got tickets to a Jimmy Buffett concert and went to the pre-concert parrothead party at Panama Red's Bar & Grill. We had been there about 30 minutes and were sitting in a booth waiting for our food when in walks JB himself. Wanders around from table to table for a while and then since we had 2 open seats he and his manager join us for dinner. He drank a Red Stripe and had Conch fritters.

My brother was trying to make it as a songwriter at the time (while working as a tree surgeon) and it was pretty cool hanging out with them for 45 minutes or so and talking about the music biz. Great guy! Went to the concert and had a blast.

PS. My brother never did make it in the biz.... sold a couple songs but never had anything recorded.

Weirdest one for me was Harrison Ford randomly walking into a Sioux City Outback Steakhouse I was working at around '00. Saw plenty of celebs pretty much weekly waiting tables in downtown Chicago the next year, but none as huge as the one I saw in Sioux City. Diane Lane, Harold Ramis, Will Ferrell, at least 50 mlb/nba/nfl players and coaches, and dozens of character actors like Harry Dean Stanton who would perform at a theater close by.

I don't value autographs anymore and don't understand the fanaticism of some folks.........that said, and when I was about 10, my two biggest autos I ever got signed were; Cassius Clay (yes before he converted to N. of Islam) and Wilt Chamberlain. Both of which I have since lost.

I sat next to the Great Khali on a flight from Philadelphia to Montreal. He was going up to film scenes for the movie 'Get Smart'. It was a little commuter plane and he was basically folded in two and took up both our seats. I pretty much curled up into a little ball and prayed he didn't twitch and accidentally break my arm. Actually he was super quiet and polite. Mostly he was uncomfortable because the plane was tiny. I helped him fill out the french language customs form.
