Cyclone Fanatics,

The media will have you believe this is a down year for the Big XII and that its not a top level conference this season, this is not the case if you do the math on the average rankings based on last weeks CBS Sports 120 which ranks all FBS Teams from top to bottom.

Below is an explanation: Conference, Average Rank of Teams (AR), T25 = # of Teams in Top25, B25 = # of Teams in Bottom 25, Hi# = Highest Ranked Team, Low# = Lowest Ranked Team. Ok here we go.

#1 - BigXII - AR=37(37.083); T25-4; B25-0; Hi#6-Mizzou; Low#87-Kansas
#2 - SEC - AR=38(37.5); T25-6; B25-0; Hi#2-Auburn; Low#95 Vanderbilt
#3 - Pac10 - AR=43(42.6); T25-4; B25-1; Hi#1 Oregon; Low#106 WSU
#4 - Big10 - AR=43(43.1818); T25-4; B25-1; Hi#5 MSU; Low#116 Minnesota
#5 - ACC - AR=48(47.9167); T25-3; B25-1; Hi#14 FSU; Low#98 Duke
#6 - FBS-I - AR=58(58.33); T25-0; B25-0; Hi#41 Navy; Low#88 Army
#7 - BigEast - AR=63(62.625); T25-0; B25-0; Hi#48 Pitt; Low#83 UConn
#8 - WAC - AR=66(65.78); T25-2; B25-2; Hi#3 BSU; Low#118NMSU
#9 - Mt.West - AR=67(67.33); T25-2; B25-3; Hi#4 TCU; Low#120 New Mexico
#10 - C-USA - AR=76(76.4167); T25-0; B25-4; Hi#29 ECU; Low#112 Memphis
#11 - MAC - AR=96(96.33); T25-0; B25-6; Hi#53 NIU; Low#119 Akron
#12 - SunBelt - AR=104(104.33); T25-0; B25-7; Hi#76 Troy; Low#117 WKU

Boy am I glad I don't watch college football in New Mexico, #118 New Mexico State and #120 New Mexico, ouch! Well chew on that and tear it apart.

I don't see why the Big 12 is higher than the SEC...Your post says the SEC has 6 teams in the T25 to the Big 12's 4. Also, SEC has highest rank at #2, while Big 12 is at #6. The only thing the Big 12 is better at is lowest rank, SEC has #95, while Big 12 has #87.

It's listed by Average Rank.

The media only wants to know if one of the traditional best teams in the conference is a national title contender.

Agreed. The Oklahoma loss to Missouri + the Nebraska loss to Texas + the Texas loss to Iowa State = The Big XII sucks in the eyes of the national media.

While we all know that isn't the case it is what it is.

It doesn't seem like the national media is that high on the SEC either. I am thinking that Florida completely tanking this season has A LOT to do with that. Well.... the exception being Kirk Herbstreit since it is pretty clear that he wants to have a threesome with Cam Newton and Nick Saban.

The SEC East is really down this year. With as bad as Georgia started out, they are right there in the running for the East and South Carolina is leading the East. Heck, Georgia lost to Colorado for crying out loud. On the flip side, the West is loaded with Ark, LSU, Alabama, and Auburn.

Perception (media) is also about pandering to your constituency. Besides DSM, the local media is always infatuated with the local conference.

By the end of the year you would have to think we would be #1. Illinois doesn't have a tough game left while we still have Mizzou and Nebraska

Is this list the SOS based on who teams have played up to this point in the season? Just curious. Wasn't very clear on the CBS site.

Not familiar with CBS in particular, but any midseason SOS list I've ever seen includes only games played so far.
