My thoughts only, but I feel like after the loss Carr took at NCAAs last year, he has studied/worked to find ways to score regardless of the defensive tactics used by opposing wrestlers. When Sheets (OK St) tried his usual "wrestling from the knees" approach a few weeks ago, David was still able to get takedowns in a way that I don't think he was able to in the past. I'm guessing he recognized a gap in his own skillset and has put in the time to fill it.That split position O'Toole uses when you've got one leg is tough to beat but Carr seems to have it figured out.
What’s crazier as that if you watch some film on him, he can score in an almost a heart beat from there. That split position O'Toole uses when you've got one leg is tough to beat but Carr seems to have it figured out.
I'll never claim to be an expert, but the one time that O'T seemed to have a legit chance to escape, he seemed more intent on getting a reversal than just getting his 1. I bet he handles that differently next time around. Thanks for posting that. I only got to see snippets on the jumbotron at Hilton last night.
What was up with the Ali Shuffle in the middle of the second period? That seems like something that would be frowned upon in the wrestling world. Anybody have any idea why he did it? Other than the fact that he is David Carr and he can do whatever he wants!
Also, how impressive was his riding in the third period? I was really surprised that O'Toole couldn't get out. Was that because Carr played it so well? Or was O'Toole just gassed?
A match like that may deserve its own thread for discussion!
