So the question -- after seeing Wood leave town this winter -- is obvious: Could Zambrano ever imagine pitching for another team?

'No,'' he said, tapping his hand on that big ''C'' logo over his heart. Then without much hesitation...

''Well, if I do,'' Zambrano added in a hushed voice, ''I want it to be in a White Sox uniform.''

What?

This isn't the kind of thing that will go over well with Cubs fans.

''I grew up as a White Sox fan. That was my favorite team,'' Zambrano said. ''I apologize to the Cubs fans for saying this, but you don't have control when you are 6, 7 years old of your feelings. Your feelings are with the team you see as a child. For me, it was the White Sox.''

So what? Jim Thome is a Cubs fan. Not every player gets to play for the team they grew up rooting for. This is a non issue.

His family stays with him in Chicago during the season, so it's easy to see why he would want to play for the White Sox if he ever has to make that decision.

I will disagree will this, JT does all his off season training in Darien, IL. My wife works for the company he trains at and I've meet him a number of times. He has been a Sox fan his whole life!

A few years ago, Zambrano ended up on the DL for wrist/forearm problems, and he attributed it to spending too much time on the internet "e-mailing his brother."
