Cards' MLB Draft

Hope they work out. I don't follow the baseball draft at all but looks like a couple of good picks.

Pretty disappointed with taking two pitchers. I get way more excited for high upside hitters. The Cardinals like to go with safe picks though. Our system is lacking power guys. After Taveras and Wong we lack any proven hitters. Hopefully with our next pick we take a position player.

I've never really understood why there is such a gap in progression between baseball and other major sports.

In the NFL, we commonly see 22 year-old guys coming in and performing at a high level after three years of college football.

In the NBA, the best players are coming in at 20 years old after just one year in the NCAA.

Why is MLB different? What's the point of the farm system? NFL doesn't need one and the NBA one is just one league. If the MLB scrapped all of the minors except for AAA, that would make sense to me. I feel like there's something that I'm just not getting, though.

Baseball is a lot harder to be good at. The minors are an absolute must. That's where players grow and develop. If you only had AAA you would have to cut down the draft to like 1 or 2 rounds and basically get rid of international signings because without all the minor league levels there would be no where for those players to go. I think the way they have it now is perfect.

Ask the Royals and the Cubs.

I'm not disappointed, the Cards have drafted very well over the past 5 years. You can see it today with the young arms that they keep bringing up. The way to win is with pitching - see the Angels and Dodgers spending 100's of millions on offense and they are in last place.

The cardinals might have the best front office in baseball and we just have to trust them.
