Durango has 5.7L. I lost power but it didn't die. (No dash lights came on at least) shut it off and restarted max rpm 4000. Took it back out and now it will excell to 6000 but I don't hear the low powerful exhaust sound when I excellerate which my novice opinion is overdrive. Too late to talk to my repair shop so I was wondering if anyone here has any idea?

Got any mice issues? Maybe chewing wires? This has happened twice to me causes weird issues that was a mother trucker to figure out where they were snipped and to fix them

Sounds to me like your Fenster sprocket flew off into your mitterwald valve, causing a loss of coolant to your spare tire.

If your dash is having issues, start with the battery. Even if it passes the AutoZone test it may still be bad. If it is over 5 years, replace it and go from there. Batteries can cause strange issues.

No dash issues. It didn't die just lost ability to excellerate. When I turned it off then back on i got limited excelleration back just not full blown Hemi badass power..

Took it back out and got up to 90 on a county back road. Still doesn't sound or feel like overdrive is kicking in.

My bad, I misread about the dash lights. I thought you meant the dash went off.

Almost sounds like it went into limp mode. But usually you'll get a CEL. Definitely check the Durango forums. I'm sure it's been experienced by other people.

As mentioned above, could be an O2 sensor. That'll definitely cause loss of power issues and you won't always get a CEL. Happened to my 2004 GTO in a car wash. Water somehow got to it and fried it.

Also, check your spark plug wires. One could have come loose. Or, maybe just a bad spark plug.

How many miles? Sounds suspiciously like a dirty throttle body. Also, Chryslers are notorious for bad grounds which can cause a myriad of issues. Could also be unmetered air getting into the intake somehow.

Are any warning lights on? I experience a throttle sensor issue at high altitude recently and had similar things happening

One could make major buck by opening Check Engine Light franchise. While I know that's promoted all over, it would eventually sink it. Like Dunkin Donuts or Krispy Kreme.

Is the acceleration back to normal so it just sounds weird? Could be something going on with the exhaust system. Modern emissions controls will impact engine operation if something is off. But it's weird that it never turned the CEL on.

It is possible a code was stored even without a dash lamp. But if it can't be recreated, it will be a bear to troubleshoot.

I wonder if it's missing because it sounds like a 4 cylinder not the beast mode usually associated with a Hemi. In neutral or park it maxed out at 4k. Getting into it, it would max out around six. It just doesn't sound like it always has.

I assume you know it used to go over 4k rpm in P or N? I could see an OEM programming a rev limiter when not in gear to prevent people from doing stupid ****.

Maybe you lost a fuel injector? Had that happen to me once ('91 Grand Am #humblebrag). Seemed to run okay - no vibration or strange noises, just more gutless than normal. Seems like there would be a light for that, but maybe not depending on what happened.

I'm a little confused by your use of the term overdrive. Overdrive is the economy gear your auto trans slips into for highway efficiency. Moderate acceleration would kick you out of overdrive immediately. There's either a different word you're intending or I'm misunderstanding a part of the symptom.

If you were doing 90 and backed off the throttle and it just held revs and didn't drop into overdrive, that's a problem. Everything else you've described is most likely engine related.

Curious to hear what the resolution turns out to be.
