I have a 2011 Ford Escape. This summer when the temp is over about 90 degrees outside or higher it blows hot air, not just outside temp air but actually what feels like heated air. Runs basically fine on other days. Had it in once and they couldn't find anything. Any one have any ideas?

I drive a 2011 F150. Lost the ac a few weeks back. They analyzed and came back and asked if I'd noticed the engine running hot. I had not. They had found a leak from the fill line from coolant tank. I was way low on coolant as a result.
They told me the ac compressor will kick-off if it starts over-heating as a protective measure, due to the engine running hot.
I'd never heard that one in 40+ yrs of driving, but everything is electronic controls now.
Bottom line. They fixed the leak, engine is not running hot. Ac is back normal.

Your problem is you drive a Ford.

I remember once my air conditioner was working sporadically. I almost bought one of thise do it yourself coolant kits to see if that would fix it. Decided to take it to a shop instead. Turns out the last time the ac was services they actually overfilled it with coolant, which I guess can cause it to not function. They let some if it out and it worked fine. Bonus it was a small repair bill.
