Cap City League

This is a pretty decent league. Nice players from ISU & Drake. William Penn has a couple that play and so does Grand View.

For having fun, jacking up 3-ptrs, and slacking off on defense. As for developing any skills that might be useful in the Big 12, not so much...

Of course, most rational fans see it as a fun display of local talent, an introduction to new faces, and a way to see something Cyclone-related during a time when college sports are dormant. Other fans see it as the only developmental tool seen by our players in the offseason; a waste of an hour and half when the competition is dribbling around chairs and cones. One of those groups takes it far too seriously...

The CCL has nothing to do with the development of ISU players for the sake of ISU fans. Get over it. It is fun for the fans and the players.

Fun is great. I'm all for it. The problem comes in when the players play with that same CCL "fun" mentality during the season, like has been happening at ISU for the past four years. That will get you stuff like 4-12 in the Big 12.

If a player can't put the CCL mentality away when it comes to the CBB season, then it might be time for that player to put the CCL away during the summer. I suspect FH will take care of that problem.

There are a lot of reasons we have sucked the last 4 years in the B12 . . . and none of them have to do with the cap-city league.

The CCL must have been the problem all along! Quit the CCL and we'll win the Big 12!!!!!:biglaugh:

Over the last four years, other than Brackins from his freshman to sophomore year, has there been any ISU MBB player that has markedly improved his game over the summer? Particularly inside players?

I can think of a couple that regressed: Jubalek from junior to senior year; Brackins from sophmore to junior year.

Weren't we a month ago blaming that regression on mcdermott? In fact, not only were we blaming all of ISU basketball's ills on McDermott, but CCL never came up once as a result.

CCL might be an undisciplined style of basketball, but it's hardly the blame for our problems over the last half decade. Or should our players be banned from ever playing a pickup game at the Rec or Beyer their entire time at ISU?

The same ******** argument could be made that our players shouldn't play on any Team USA squads.

I think you need a lesson on causal relationships.

The CCL has NOTHING to do with the development of our players for Big 12 play. It doesn't hurt anything. It's for fun and entertainment, a less-serious way for these kids to play the sport they love. It is still a game, right?

I have my reasons for not liking the CCL, and a couple have been mentioned.

Something that hasn't been mentioned though...did the CCL do anything to dispel the legend of Eikmeier, for example, or did it highten the ******** on this board?

Also, With such young guys about to be the foundation of this team at ISU, they need to be playing WITH each other as much as humanly possible, not on teams with players who will be attending "William Penn and Grandview" next year. I don't even care if they're playing basketball, but they sure as hell better be bonding.

The CCL is obviously a far cry from B12 level or MWC level basketball, but it's just a fan friendly opportunity to see new faces and some former/current CIML guys. If you go to a CCL game to try and find hidden gems or to see how well player X is developing from his frosh year to sophomore year, than you're going to be disappointed.

There are certainly negative tendancies that surface during CCL games, however, and in the handful of games I've been to, those tendancies typically manifested themselves during the regular season. For instance, last year, Colvin had a terrible attitude during CCL games and was disinterested in running an offense. I remember him being kicked out of a game last summer and I told my friend I was with that I didn't like his game or the way he carried himself. Sure enough, we know how that played out. Also, JVB clearly wasn't healthy during the CCL last year and he missed essentially the entire year.

In year's past, there were several of McD's recruits that stood out, not because they blew everyone away with their skill, but because you immediately questioned their ability and why they were offered a scholarship in the first place.

About the only positive things you can pick up from CCL games, if you're really watching is 1) How well a player's shot is developing (DG's stroke looked improved last summer and he shot better from outside in '09-10 than he had the previous two seasons), and 2) How well a player is developing physically.

I love the CCL and the opportunity to see these guys play up close and personal. That being said, it's pretty much pick up basketball with spotty officiating, but still worth it, especially since it's free for fans.

I don't mean to sound like an *******, but I'm going to anyway.

For guys like you (I realize I have no idea who you are, so my apologies for generalizing) and me, "it's just a game".

However, for those who have the ability to gain a free education by playing, it's a business. Those schollies are investments, and should be taken seriously.

Cap City league is awesome. Best dunk Ive ever seen in person was in that league.

Mike Taylor fast break, put back, two handed reverse dunk over AT.

NASTY!
