Buying a new television!

I am going to buy a new TV. Can anyone tell me their experiences with Plasma Vs. LED. I found a really good deal on an LG...Plasma and LED at Sams Club and have kindof narrowed my choices down to those two and maybe a couple others.

TV will mostly be used to watch sports, watch DVDs/blue ray, and occasionally gaming.

Does anyone know of a free consumer report website or other good feedback/info finding sites? If anyone has some first hand experience or good knowledge in the TV field, I'd appreciate the help!!!

After loads of comparison I bought a Philips at Sams, 52" HD LCD as it was the best bang for the buck. Plasma works better in VERY dark rooms. LED was too pricey and there was little difference in PIX quality. Good Luck.
 
Plasma TV's have darker blacks, and a better viewing angle. However they have some glare issues but from what I understand that can also not be an issue based on the manufacturer. Sometimes plasmas have other issues. I'm not incredibly well versed on the differences. I would suggest doing some googling for reviews and just doing some research outside of here too.
 
Something else to consider is the heat that plasma's give off. My living room can get pretty warm in the summer from the tv.
I've had a Samsung 50" Plasma 720P for 2 years now in the living room and a Westinghouse 32" 1080i LCD in the bedroom for 4 years now and both have been very solid tv's.
 
Just be sure your TV is the right size for your room. There is such thing as a TV that is too big and you will kick yourself for getting one too small. Audio out is also something to look for in TVs.

Video out??? Really?

I looked for audio out and assorted different Video in's... but not so much for video out.

I'm curious as to what you'd want that for? (Really, I am. Wasn't even on my radar when I bought my TV)

That is what I'm leaning towards right now...(50" LG Plasma)

Some of the reports say that the picture quality falls short compared to other plasmas... Don't know how much truth there is to that from my plain eyes view.
 
Laugh if you want but our 32" Emerson LCD-720 came from Wally World. It fits the size of the room and we both love it. Yes, it is the one they ran on sale at Christmas for $300.

I honestly don't know about other plasmas......I've walked through Best Buy and other places, and I usually look to see how the pictures look, and I haven't seen any that look better to my eye.

I don't know why anyone would buy a plasma TV. It's a dying technology. Manufacturers are making fewer of them each year. Some have quit making them altogether and there's a reason, they are priced so low. They're trying to unload them. They have other issues as well, like high energy consumption.

Go over to places where people actually know what they are talking about like AVSforums and you'll see that plasma is preferred. I have both a Samsung LCD 1080p and a Panasonic plasma 1080p and the plasma has a much better picture. It does use more energy but I could give two squats about that. Not putting down the LCD, after all I bought one and also have an LCD projector, but if you put a plasma side by side with an LCD the plasma will have a better picture. This is straight out of the box and also after tweaking.

I was at Sam's Saturday and they had the LG 47" LED 120hz for less than $1200. I thought that was a hell of a deal. Is that the one you are looking at?
