NFL: Burress agrees to 2 year prison term

What a joke! Shoot yourself on accident in the leg....2 years!

And yes I know NY law on guns

I think this is more about NY officials setting an example than justifying what happened, too strict of penalty in my opinion.

WOW!! Seems really harsh!

So I guess that you are better off drunk driving and killing someone than shooting yourself in the leg? Seems a bit ridiculous:confused:

Totally fine by me, glad to see a court somewhere come down on idiots that own weapons illegally

It's not about owning guns illegally, it's about carrying guns illegally.

The point is, New York has the strictest gun control laws in the country. Plax was either dumb enough not to know what the law was or he knew what the law was and was even dumber to carry anyway. Experts were saying that the average citizen would get 3-5 years for this crime. Plax settled for 2. Seems fair to me.

As far as how this may or may not violate Plax's 2nd Amendment rights is a completely different issue. Point is, Plax broke New York law that exists on the books, and now he has to pay.

EDIT - and odds are, the same people that are saying that Vick doesn't deserve a second chance will be campaigning for Plax's reinstatement the moment he steps foot out of prision.

If it was a plea agreement, his attorneys were apparently pretty certain that he'd get more than two years after a trial. Might as well make the deal now, start serving your sentence and get it out of the way.

Wow, if I was Stallworth I'd be thanking my lucky stars.

Definitely a bit harsh.

I dont like the Giants or Plax, but this is ridiculous.

I see that the "raw deal" crew is here in full effect.

Maybe people should try and not break laws instead of depending on our screwed up justice system to let them off the hook.

there a way more people on this board that have gotten away with driving over 0.08 and just happened to not kill somebody than would carry a gun in NY which is widely known to be completely anti-gun.

Just don't be hypocrites, if you've ever driven after more than 1 drink - you're lucky to not be stallworth.

Say what you want but can you explain to me why accidently shooting yourself should carry a more harsh penalty than taking anothers life?

I can't get the article to open.

Is this a 2yr sentence, out in something like 10 mos?

I don't have a big problem with this. It's illegal. He discharged a firearm in a crowed venue (accidental or not) and is lucky nobody was killed. If you can't handle your firearm, or are dumb enough to have the safety off and/or just carry it in the waist of your pants - well, you deserve what you get.

Why the need to take a gun into a nightclub again?

he's not going to jail for shooting himself.

Excuse me. I apologize.

Carrying a loaded weapon that discharges hitting yourself is a greater crime than being drunk and killing someone?

All I am saying is that if you look at this in the eyes of a 10 year old it would appear that carrying a concealed weapon in NY is worse than taking a mans life because you had too much to drink and got behind the wheel of a car...thats all. Not trying to defend Cheddar Bob, I just dont understand how Dante got off so easy:wink:
