Breakdown of UNI

Someone who has watched a lot of UNI help me out. I've seen people calling Theo Day the best QB in the state. That can't be true right?

Pretty sure @1UNI2ISU has said he's really good (apologies if you didn't say that).

FWIW nobody's done anything of note in their time at Iowa (I know Mcnamara's done well but who knows what he'll do there) or ISU so it's not like it's that big of a take.

He's a 6'5" Michigan State transfer who is all Mo Valley 1st team and who's also getting looks from the NFL, so I'd say he's definitely for real. Hopefully, with an Oline that will be replacing 4 starters, we can pressure him.

I forsee him having a very tough day against. us. IDK it's one thing to do it in the MVC. It's a totally different ball game to do it against P5 competition.

I went to a couple games last year in the dome. He’s ok. The bigger issue is weird ass play calling that probably limits him. He’s not some rockstar QB to be afraid of by any means but he’s not bad.

Early season game which we always struggle with against a team we always struggle against with all new skill position starters and new coaches.

Not going to put a whole lot into a big win or close game - I just want to see progress as the year goes on.

If they're still sputtering all the way through November it might be time to at least start wondering.

Yeah. He's absolutely legit. You don't see arm talent like that at the FCS level. He's on all the watch lists and is going to be on an NFL roster next year with an upside of a Day 2 draft pick.

Technically 4 starters lost but it's not an inexperienced group. Four guys that have played a bunch of football at UNI returning and the o-line coach before Clanton came back after being head coach at Ankeny for few years so there shouldn't be much change.

LT-Jared Penning (6-6 340)-Returning starter. Trevor's brother and probably also an NFL guy though not elite like Trevor
LG-Josh Volk (6-4 305 Iowa Transfer) or Wes Hine (6-6 295) or Kyle Kelly (6-5 310 Ark State Transfer)-This is the inexperienced spot.
C-Chase Arends (6-1 280)-Started in 2021 but missed a lot of time last year due to a lat tear
RG-Blake Anderson (6-4 300)-Played in all 11 last year with 3 starts
RT-Tristan Roper (6-6 325)-16 starts in 30 career games

We also have a future opponent playing Week Zero...

Ohio could be sneaky IMO. They return a ton of talent and were a solid team last year. We did still beat them by like 30 so ISU should definitely be favored, but playing MAC teams on the road is always stupid. Afraid it could be like when Rhoads’ team went to Toledo and got beat

I guess the question I am left with is, how does a 4 star qb go from Power five to FCS? Seems like a big step down. I would assume as a Michigan native he could find a MAC school to give him a chance.
Playing time, likes the staff, maybe his mom went to UNI, who knows. It does seem odd that he didn't end up at a smaller FBS school.
