I thought they were planning on bowling in the South End Zone at Jack Trice. Does anyone know the status of this part of the stadium renovation project?

Not in the near future. Would be many years before this ever takes shape, plus a while of just building.

I don't think it happens before 2018.

Sell out Jack Trice every home game for a couple years in a row and it might happen....

You dont build to your lowest crowd. If you'll sell it out even a couple times a year you build.

Thats beside the point though for stage 1. Stage 1 would plant the footings for stage 2, but it would not increase capacity it all. It would create the lower bowl, which would increase the value of the seats in there and the desirability of those seats as the season goes on (dry, real seat > wet, grass seat). Almost as important, it would go a long way in making us look like we belong in a BCS conference.

It is not feasable to do unless there is money there to pay for a big chunk of it. No matter how you push the numbers you have to have a huge donation to make it pay for itself.

No argument here. I just don't think the powers that decide these things are going to allow it unless their is a clear need or gain to doing it.

Yes, because 20 million dollar empty aluminum and fiberglass seats will make ISU play better and look so much better than grass.

No need to invest any money towards empty capacity. The solution starts and ends with ISU putting a consistant winning product on the field year after year.

Seems like every coach that worked in JTS has identified it as a major need. DMac did a lot adding the Jake and the Media deck. Hopefully CPR generates enough momentum to finally get it done.

I know it's been done many times but compare JTS and West Viriginia's stadium. Incredibly similar design. WVU got it done and their stadium is sweet as hell.

(I know you agree with me, just further proving the point )

And it's full most of the time....

The renovations will NOT increase capacity by much more!!!!! All we are doing is moving the hillside seats to the endzone seating.

Actually, empty seats would look better than grass. Additionally, those seats would never be empty. Iowa State sells out it's real seats damn near every game (roughly 43,000 real seats in JTS).

If it costs $50M to complete (for the upper and lower bowl), you charge $50 a ticket, you gain 10,000 seats, and there are 7 sold out home games it will take 15 years to pay for. When was the last time ISU sold out all their home games in a season? You can upsell a few thousand grass tickets to seats you will make about another $1M a year, cutting the pay off down a few years, but you have to sell out all the games. I bet my ticket prices are high also so that will add more years to the payout.

Empty? We sell the seats every year. For Iowa, UNI, and nebraska, we almost always leave $$ on the table by not having enough seats. Do we have issues in november? Absolutely... but for a lot of the season (usually aug-mid oct) we average more people than seats (we only have about 43k seats)

AS soon as ISU starts having the success that WV has had JTS will be bowled in. No need to have empty 20 million dollar seats.

West Virginia has won or shared a conference title 13 times, including 5 Big East titles.

You are leaving about $500,000 on the table for those games, if you can get seated cap up to 55,000. Takes a long time to make a bowled in field pay at that rate.

The project is likely contingent upon the sale of donor assets. Due to economic conditions, that sale has not transpired yet. When it does, the project will probably get done within a 1 to 2 year timeframe.

And the project IMO should include a huge state-of-the-art videoboard incorporated into the seating configuration.

No they don't. Not for each individual game. If you are talking seasonal averages then I buy it. Even considering seasonal averages - capacity is capacity. If JTS can hold 52,000 than that is what is can hold, that is the real capacity not 43,000 and ISU has been far from selling out each and every game.

What about the off years when ISU does not play any of these teams at home?
