Not sure if this has been mentioned here or not, but I stumbled upon this:

Sports Extra - Blogs - OU - Florida website reports Stoops 'finalizing' Gators deal | Tulsa World

Two reporters from the ESPN-affiliated website GatorCountry.com reported late this morning that Bob Stoops was "finalizing" a contract to take over at Florida, and even went so far as to suggest that former Gators quarterback Kerwin Bell would be Stoops' offensive coordiantor.

According to GatorCountry's Raymond Hines, "the deal could still break down." Names suggested if that happens: Chris Petersen, Kyle Whittingham of Utah and Will Muschamp.

That would be very interesting and I could see that move on Stoops' part. That would have serious implications in the B12. I wonder who OU would look at. Possibly Mike or the younger Stoops (Danny maybe?).

SEC > Big12 is the only reason I can come up with.

Recruiting also. Florida is a talent rich state. OU does well enough going into Texas, but Florida would be easier, IMO.

Also, he did coach there previously and my like the city, etc. Also, sometimes people just want/need a change.

Why would Stoops leave OU for florida?

Not many gigs better than the OU job but I think Florida is one of them (Texas being the other IMO).

Hope he leaves, get some new blood in Norman.

Florida may have been better, but now they are down and OU is up. Add to that a down Texas and Nebraska out of the conference, the only teams they really have to worry about are OSU and Mizzou. The road to a national championship is a whole lot easier in Norman than in the swamp. Also, if he happens to lead a team to a national championship, in florida they will forget about him as soon as the next NFL game is on, but in Oklahoma, he will be a legend.

Sure the money may be better at florida, but I think national championship>>>>>>>>> money.

Well, that's interesting. It'd be a good move for Stoops and Florida. I know he was in the talk last year when Meyer said he was stepping down too.

Only reason I can see it happening is that the SEC is much more stable, and the way that Florida can get talent, is ridiculous. Pretty much a dream job for any coach that doesn't actually care about the school - so, pretty much all of them.

It'll be interesting to see who they hire though. I imagine they have plenty of well qualified coaches who want the job.

Mike Stoops? Let the dominos fall.

He wants to beat the Chiz again. He likes warmer weather at his age.

Isn't Stoops currently building a new home in Oklahoma? I doubt it's true.

Maybe losing the Fiesta bowl to UCONN and making it 7 straight BCS losses.

If OU doesn't beat UCONN by at least 2 touchdowns, OU should fire their entire coaching staff immediately. UCONN just lucked into being the least ****** team in the Big East to get into the Fiesta.

if stoops goes to florida:

the new coach at the sooners will be:
venables,the current defensive coordinator,
mangino the former kansas coach,
or mike leach the former texas tech coach.
cheers.GO CYCLONES!!!!!!!

IF (big if) this was true, do you think they might just promote Venables? His name gets thrown around for a lot of openings. Plus, OU kind of recruits itself so if he's a good X's and O's guy, they'd be fine.
