NFL: Black Monday

Frazier should be shown the door.

Schwartz should be shown the door.

Ryan should be cleaning out his office.

Shanahan is a dead man walking.

I actually think Ryan should be retained, especially if they win today and finish 8-8. Prior to the season, did anyone think the Jets could play .500 ball? They were projected to be epically bad this year. No talent on that offense. Possibly the least talented offense in the league. And here they are, fighting for .500? Ryan has actually done a very good job this year.

I heard Ryan was told he'd be let go last week, then told he would not be. That's what a guy on fox sports radio said this morning.

I think Ryan is a good coach. He just gets a lot of flack because of his big personality. He has exceeded everyone's expectations of what that team would be.

Also rumored to be on the hot seat -

Rob Chudzinski in Cleveland - To borrow from Bill Simmons, God hates Cleveland. Starting over yet again.
Dennis Allen and Reggie McKenzie in Oakland - rumored. I could take or leave Dennis Allen but you have to give McKenzie a chance to build the roster after he spent two years cleaning up the mess from the previous regime.
Mike Munchak in Tennessee - 50/50
Jason Garrett in Dallas - strong possibility if the Cowboys lose today
Tom Coughlin in NY - unlikely
Greg Schiano in TB (may leave for Penn State of his own accord if O'Brien bolts Happy Valley for the Texans job)

Rex Ryan has exceeded expectations. 8-8 with that roster is a pretty major achievement. The Jets should bring him back on a two year deal. That way if the team is **** on toast next season they can fire him without having to eat a ton of money.

This. Smith has shown some ability, but has also looked like a rookie. He'll improve, especially if he can keep some consistency in the scheme. Powell looks to be a solid RB as well. If they dump Santonio Holmes and his giant contract, and sign some receiving talent, they have a chance to be solid next year. The defense should be good again.

Correct. Window to fire Rex (for those that just want to fire him for the sake of firing him) was last season. Especially with the team internally imploding.

This year they greatly exceeded expecations. I'm not a Geno fan but he has impressed me at times. Key will be can the staff develop him or will they do to him what they did to Sanchez and make a debacle of his development.

Yep. When they hired a new GM after last season, that was also the time to dump Rex. He really hasn't given them a reason to fire him this year. If they can find some weapons for Geno Smith and he makes the leap that good QBs normally do from their rookie to second season, I could see the Jets pushing for a wild card spot next season, but it will be tough for anyone in the AFC East to pass the Pats as long as Belichick and Brady are around.

For the love of all that is holy, Tom Coughlin needs to retire! As a Giants fan, I can take a terrible season (and they really are terrible) as long as the light at the end of the tunnel is coaching change a Coughlin and Gilbride. Looking more and more like that light is not the end but that of an oncoming train.

Sounds like he won't step down and they won't nudge him. Ugh!!

So the Giants won two Super Bowls despite of Tom Coughlin?

That's the rumor.

Spielman might not be in the clear, either. I'm not sure what to make of that. Overall he's done a pretty good job of building the roster but he really bungled the QB position, and that's the one spot that you absolutely have to get right.

I really hope they retain Spielman. His performance in the draft the last few years ought to be enough to give him another year... I hope.
