Two close Big 12 wins, but it seems like we are making clutch plays at clutch times. Are we this year's Baylor from 2019? Here are my game summaries to back this up:
ISU 37 - 34 over TCU
TCU 3rd and 6 at our 27, Bankston sack back to the 32, forces a 49-yard field goal, no good.
TCU 2nd and 9 at our 28, JaQuan sack to the 33 leads to a punt on 4th down.
Breece Hall 75-yard TD run on 1st and 15.
ISU 2nd and 10, Akers catches a 3-yard pass in the flat, goes 51 yards total, leads to a FG.
JaQuan gets sack, strip and recovery at TCU 17, sets up Darren Wilson 17-yard TD catch.
24 seconds till halftime, TCU just had a long pass, JaQuan gets a sack to end the threat.
Purdy gifts TCU a walk-in TD, but after kickoff, Hall goes for 22, then Kene runs for 49-yard TD.
3:28 left in 3rd quarter, Uwazurike sack of 7 yards leads to a punt.
Late 3rd quarter, Purdy runs 19 yards, then hits Scates for 44, leads to short Hall TD run.
4:00 left, Rose miracle deflection/interception leads to Hall 32-yard TD on 3rd and 3.
Defense forces TCU to use up the entire 2:48 left to end the game.
ISU 37 - 30 over OU
T. Kyle allowed long pass to Rambo, but caught him from behind, forcing a FG, not a TD.
From our 42, Purdy scrambles, finds Akers for 35-yard gain. Led to FG to tie score.
Kolar catches 4-yard pass, spins from defender and gains 21.
Kolar catches 22-yard pass to OU 15, sets up another FG.
ISU 1st and 10 back at the 15, 5-yard out-pattern to Milton turns into 43-yard gain.
Then Soehner throws 28-yard pass to Chase.
Penalty on Scates causes 3rd and 6, but Hall runs right, 8 yards to the 3. Leads to TD.
2nd half, Hall inexplicably eludes two tacklers behind LOS, runs right for 12 yards to the 50.
Kene 30-yard run to the 2 is called back, illegal formation, but great run still.
OU holds Sean Shaw on failed 3rd down, next play 65-yard TD Xavier.
OU takes lead 30-23, but Kene returns kickoff 85 yards, leading to Purdy rush for TD.
7:00 left, White breaks up long pass down the middle to Mims. McDonald sack forces punt.
Hall busts loose up the middle for 36 yards, then goes 8 more for winning TD.
Young 34-yard pass to endzone intercepted.
Offense gains a first down to end the game, this is not your old ISU.
OU entered the game allowing only 2 third-down conversions out of 22, ISU was 5/9.
OK, so it is only two games, but we are making plays that lead to a win, not a close loss. And, officiating is not killing our chances.
