Big 12 Tournament

Still deciding what to do. I wish the tournaments overlapped, even if in the same venue, rather than having days with 1 (or 0) games.

Is this the 1st yr in Tmobile or is that next yr? Either way talk about oversizing a venue

This is year one of using T-Mobile Stadium. Without the men's tournament coinciding with the women's I suspect it will echo loudly with tons of empty seats…much like Dallas did. I understand the need to provide the women with top notch facilities and more locker rooms, but from the crowd perspective (not just what benefits us, but how the crowd impacts the game) it’s a huge step backwards.

It changes where are the best places to stay. The normal locations right around Municipal are now a good walk to get to the new locale. This also means higher prices. Rather than looking at the usual hotels I’ve stayed in over the years I looked much closer to T. Not ideal, but it is what it is. We even considered staying further away and driving in, but parking near T is very limited. It also impacts some of the fav ISU haunts like Quaffs. Time will tell the impact on attendance, but my guess says it drops dramatically.

Not even a guess. It was not a well-thought-out decision, and probably he didn't truly think about it at all. Assuming people follow ONLY the men or ONLY the women is just plain bad. And there's really no way I know of to track some of the crossover attendance of ISU MBB fans who attend some WBB games because they can for nearly no cost.
We can't afford $ for lodging and food for all of two tournaments, let alone that much time away from work. I realize the full week is spring break at ISU, but spending that at a basketball tournament allows for nothing else. When I have a break I want to be doing things, not spending time twiddling my thumbs between the spaced-out games.

Some fan bases need to step their game up.

Where do you usually stay? I have reservations at the President Hilton, which Is perfectly located between municipal auditorium and t moblle.
Hate to disappoint you but, both tourneys are at T-moble this year over a 2 week period. Dumbest move the big 12 ever made but, it's likely a set up to move the ladies to another city on the excuse of poor attendance

Unfortunately, a few schools complained that Municipal was not "fancy" enough, and thus the move to T-Mobile. It is a poor take on the part of the Big12; however, it goes back to the Big10 being in the Target Center, the Pac-12 being in Las Vegas at the MGM, the ACC in Greensboro (22k seat arena), and the SEC playing in 15k seat arena. It is about perception, and many people's perception of Municipal Auditorium is old and outdated.

If you stay away from downtown, park at Union Station and ride the streetcar to the P&L. The streetcar is free, and parking is fairly reasonable and much easier than a ramp downtown.
