This breakdown from CBSsports can make the case for the Big12 as the best college basketball conference this year.

record against top 50 RPI opponents: check
record against other top 10 leagues:check
best league RPI: check

whenyou factor that the Big12 plays a true round robin schedule it makes you appreciate how winning that league really means something. You can't skate through by getting the favorable league schedule of not playing all the top league teams

"Record against other top 10 leagues"

Big 12 received a huge boost in this category by playing a ton of games against the SEC. That conference blows.

3-3 vs big10
ISU over Michigan
ISU over iowa
OSU over Purdue
MSU over OU and Texas
Wisky over WVU

Yet when I started a thread about this a month or so ago, I was called crazy by B1G apologists.

Based on?

Who they have played would be my guess.

Iowa State has as many RPI top 25 wins as the entire B1G Conference has with 2.

The Big XII, Pac-12, and ACC all have 5 top 25 RPI wins. The American has 4, Big East 3, and SEC 2.

So far Ohio State has played 1 team in the RPI top 50. Thad should be proud of that top notch schedule. Oklahoma and TCU are the only Big XII schools that have played that few top 50 RPI opponents.

ISU is 3-0 against the RPI top 50. They have more RPI top 50 wins then Ohio State, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, Purdue, Indiana, Penn State, Michigan, and Northwestern. They are tied with Michigan State at 3 and 1 behind Wisconsin with 4.

I think the one thing everyone forgets about college basketball, is that coaching matters. The B12 has some really good coaches in their top 6 or 7 teams, by good I don't mean that Scott Drew is a great coach but he is a hell of a recruiter and that makes his team good. Also, as these conference get bigger each conference is going to have more fat.

This. I love this about basketball and the Big 12. I do miss the other "fat" for football though and the 4 non conference games but nothing better than a round robin conference schedule for basketball

More than half of Iowa's remaining games are against top 50 RPI teams.. There will be chances. Now if they take advantage, that remains to be seen.

Yeah, I know that adding teams will be better in the long term but this round robin schedule is perfect.

They better take advantage and win some of those games this year because if they don't they will be heading to the NIT again with a non-con SOS of 160. 5 non-con games against teams with RPI's of (204, 238, 271, 284, and 315) isn't going to help their resume. Right now Iowa's 2nd best RPI victory was against Drake. Ouch.

True. But because of the flawed nature of the RPI it's not about who you beat as much as it is about who you lose to. Obviously beating them helps more but a loss to a highly rated RPI team does wonders for you RPI wise.

I get annoyed when people say something with no basis in fact. It's from being around Hawk fans for the last 3 decades. I hoped we were above that but I know better.

Next year the Big 10 adds Maryland and Rutgers. Talk about fat.
