The key to beating KState from my opinion (not an expert, but I have some serious football experience) is having your linebackers stay home. KState's line is average to slightly above, but watch DT's big runs he make a cutback to the weak side as the WLB over pursued over the top. If Wally can convince the WLB to stay home and fill the gap the come across the line laterally versus over the top we can beat DT. Watch the game again if the linebackers stay home and fill like they are suppose to those seven yard plus gains disappear. We just need to hold our gaps. Please discuss though I'm interested if anyone agrees with me.

Posted this in the game thread, but I'm hoping for some discussion

k-state is not as talented as we are. But they are a pesky team. Back to back weeks they won and lost 62-14 to a&m and tech last season. So, how good of a team are they?? It will probably be a game a lot like last year. Hopefully we are healthy, if so, we'll win.

I didn't think K-State looked good at all today. With that being said, I have a bad feeling we'll find a way to lose to them.

Not true.

We looked better than ISU did on Thursday imo, and we played a Pac 10 team who had a winning record last season, while ISU played a MAC team that was within one TD late in the 4th quarter.

My North Analysis..

Nebraska: Looked pretty good with the new quarterback. Actually showed signs of offense. (Only saw highlights)
Mizzou: Didn't look that good from what I saw. Very beatable. (Watched about 3 quarters)
KSU: Looked pretty decent. Better than what I expected. (Watched 1 or 2 quarters)
Kansas: Terrible. (Didn't see either, but what I've heard on the boards)
Colorado: Didn't see.

Get the hell off our boards!! If you aren't an ISU fan than stay off!!

I watched most of the game and their running back is pretty impressive. I still think we should be able to achieve the victory. Yes I kno you guys played a Pac 10 team but did you see there QB? When I looked toward the end of the game he was 9-25 or some ******** like that? Arnaud will just nickle and dime it down the field IMO. Also I like where we play KSU in our schedule. With playing NIU, Iowa, then KSU back to back to back, our team should be prepared against the run and will hopefully be able to stop the 40+ running attempts that KSU will bring to the table!

Absolutely true IMO. Break it down position by position and out of the 22 on both sides of the ball I would give you the more talented player in maybe 5...maybe. Not saying that automatically equates to a win but we are definitely more talented.

Northern Illinois was projected to win the MAC and made a bowl game last year. UCLA did not have very many impressive wins last year. (I realize NIU didn't either.)

arnaud > coffman
robinson = thomas
ISU WR > KSU WR
TE? I don't know, but our TE collin franklin is solid.
O-line: If they play like they are capable, they are one of the top in the big 12

D-Line: Advantage probably K-state, though I have no idea
LBs: I have confidence in our young LBs to swarm to the ball and tackle thomas
Secondary: Coffman will not throw consistently on our DBs. Besides, you lost Brandon Banks.

KSU looked good today. I thought last year KSU and ISU mirrored each other very closely, and i could see more of the same this year.

KSU looked pretty fast on defense. It will be a tough matchup on both sides.

Eh, dont know about that one. Thomas was pretty dang good

Wow ....dude ..eaze up.He didnt do anything wrong.
K-State looked pretty tough today.
I'm glad they won....it'll only make us look better after we beat them.

UCLA isn't good. I would say KSU was about what I expected. I still think we beat them because i think we can put up more points. You can only ride Thomas for so long.

As for the OP. I agree. If you take away that cutback Thomas loses a bunch of what he normally gets. What I disagree with is the primary way that we need to do that. I think we need to be able to penetrate in the middle first and foremost against him. If you can do that you automatically force him to make a decision right away. Sure, if you allow the cutback it is vital that the WLB hold that gap and either stretch him to a corner or make the play. This is where I think Sims helps us. His run support is great and he has the speed to pursue and make stops.

Like I said, I think we beat KSU because we can score more.
