NFL: Bears DE Adams dies at age 26

Bears Adams dies.

Chicago Bears defensive end Gaines Adams died Sunday morning after he was taken to a Greenwood, S.C., emergency room, the county coroner said.
Greenwood County Coroner James T. Coursey told ESPN that Adams was taken to the emergency room at Self Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 9 a.m. ET Sunday morning.
An autopsy will be performed Sunday by the Anderson County forensic pathologist, Coursey said.
Adams, 26, listed at 6-foot-5 and 256 pounds, played in college at Clemson and was drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with the No. 4 overall pick in the 2007 NFL draft. He was traded to the Bears in October.
In 47 games over four seasons with the Bucs and Bears, Adams had 67 tackles, including 13.5 sacks.

What did the Bears trade to get him 2 draft picks in this upcoming draft?

Wow really sucks for this young guy, I thought he'd eventually be a really solid player for the Bears...talk about sad.

Heart attack due to an enlarged heart according to the preliminary autopsy, very sad.

As a Vikings fan, this reminds me of when Korey Stringer passed away, but I believe his was a heat stroke.

As many physicals and medical exams as these players get, how can these things not be detected? Seems like there are several of these each year......in high school, college, pros.

When I was a kid, we always had to take physicals before taking P.E. or participating in sports, and in high school, I remember a couple of kids that were not allowed to play. Guess I just don't understand how this gets missed.

Sad stuff.

I assume you'd have to specifically have a chest x-ray or other type of scan to see it, and there's the possibility that it just gets missed.
