Be thankful for this team and not negative

I'm not disagreeing with any of this. But I am curious at what point you do think it becomes reasonable for the expectation to change? Surely at some point we escape our past and the expectations shift?

Let me preface what I'm about to say with I in no way compare where we are to where Iowa basketball is. With that said, Iowa basketball has been completely held back using this type of logic. The program's stuck in a rut, and this thought of "hey, at least we aren't Licklitter years bad" is all that's keeping Fran and his average program going. They are 9 years removed from being Licklitter bad but fear of returning to that has them completely stagnant.

I guess I just wonder at what point you kind of move on from the past and say the expectations have shifted. Not saying we are at that point yet by any means, just curious what others think.

It's perfectly reasonable to be disappointed this year. I still had a great time, I'm grateful for this group, and I'm incredibly grateful for Campbell. But this was a team that under performed W/L to it's talent level. It had tons of missed opportunities which is basically the hallmark of this program for decades. Even in some wins (UNI, KU) the game was a slog that wasn't particularly fun to watch.

That said, I've watched enough 2, 3, 4 win teams to be thrilled at the consistent performance of this team and there are still a ton of talented players in the pipeline. Put together a decent offensive line for next year and we keep it rolling along. Win the bowl game and it's 3 years in a row of 8 wins or more. There are a lot of positives here, but the blown leads and close losses can gnaw at you.

This is pretty much how I feel. I, like many, bought into the hype and was betting on an 8 win regular season as the floor, with 10 wins as a great year. The senior-laden O-line had to be better. So many missed opportunities with this team. I'm probably more disappointed with the missed opportunities impacting their record, than with the record in general.

I do have higher expectations for this team under Campbell's leadership. He has already proven he can turn things around. I was in school for the Criner years to the first Walden year, for crying out loud. Campbell is doing great things here, but I, like most, want to see continued progress. I didn't see that this year. Next year is a new opportunity, with a lot to look forward to! But, maybe I'll predict us to lose every game, so I won't be disappointed.

Hey Blood 94....you forgot someone....Jim Walden and his 0-10-1 record where Gene Smith FIRED him halfway thru the season. That was without a doubt the Lowest Point in the history of ISU Football.....GO Cyclones!

I vaguely remember us having to start a CB under center because our starter and backup were injured, and third stringer was arrested for library fines on Walden's watch. Correct me if anyone else remembers it differently, it's been almost 30 spins now. But still.....lol!

It did, we just didn't grab it. Tons of dropped INT, missed sacks, bad penalties. Those are just things we can control. No team will ever play perfect but it would have been nice to get some of those holding calls against McDonald or to not have 40 mph winds against K-State. Every year is a different year. I think we are sitting better next year than we were this year.
