So I went to the game last night at the well with a few of my buds and it was like attending "East Side" night at the state fair. I felt like I was in the middle of the trailer park of mullets, skullets and bald dudes wearing Jack Daniels bandanas ring ing their cowbells. It was a fun experience watching a different brand of football, although I think I enjoyed the people watching within the crowd a whole lot better...I have to say I havent seen a pair of Zubaz pants like the guy sitting in the row in front of me since I got a pair for Christmas back in '91. Maybe it is just a coincidence but it seemed like all of them were wearing Hawkeye apparel of some sort as well. I think the Barnstormers are good for Des Moines and I actually know one of the D-lineman personally and he had a great game but I am ready for real football at the Jack Hammer this fall.

Definitely saw alot of those types, but the people we were tailgating around were cool, and less white trash than anticipated (or less than I saw last year). Barnstormers games are a good time, and get me loosened up for the Jack this fall.

Definitely a lot of hawk fans at the Barnstormer games. Many of them appear to fit the "typical" hawk fan - never went to college and never have stepped foot into Kinnick stadium.

That being said, the Barnstormer games are alot of fun and the fans make for a great atmosphere.

Well said...

I noticed the gathering of hawk fans and it felt like a different breed of people there. we sat in the endzone next to the des moines crush...womens professional football team in des moines and rothwell the stormers center is their coach. didn't know there was such a thing but it was fun and tons of scoring and I can't remember but I think we scored 2 or 3 times on our kickoffs alone

Lots of Iowa "fans" but lots of Cyclone gear as well. We had a good time, even though we were only about 4 rows away from being in the very top row of section 320.

Those players are getting ripped off, only making $250 a week. Someone's getting rich, but it isn't the players.

The attendance was really good. What are the chances of Des Moines getting AF1. I know it is a small market but we really dont have anything else and with a crowd like last night on a consistent basis could prove that we would back an AF1 team. It would be competing with the Icubs every saturday home game but they can work around that for the most part. It sounds like AF1 will be back next year but with the economical situation with AF1 I am not sure if they would want to take the chance in our market.what are your thoughts?

Considering AF1 is bankrupt, I'd say not good.

The ONLY reason why AF2 works is because players get paid $250/game.....
