Ankeny
Long time lurker - first time poster. Can't find a good solution to my problem so I figured I'd try this.

I'm trying to find somewhere in the metro that does a quality job of detailing a vehicle. I've been to a few places previously with no such luck, hoping to get some suggestions from you all.

Few items of mention: It's a Chevy Equinox. Looking for a complete/show room level detail. Willing to spend $200+. Not looking for a basic wash.

Any and all suggestions is much appreciated.

There are places you can certainly pay more and they might do a slightly better job, but I take my vehicle through a Mister Carwash location at least once a year opting for their Ultimate Interior & Exterior wash and detail. If I recall correctly, it costs around $45-50 and they do a really nice job.

Dont use Uptown Auto in Ankeny if you dont wanna go home and vacuum it again yourself.

For 200 bucks, I'd offer to give it a showroom job.

I'm not a professional detailer or anything, but have had awesome results with my porter cable and Adams polishes.

They are a little pricey, but totally worth it IMO.

Good thread. Any recommendations for the CR area?

I recommend "Details" in Ames.

For anyone in the metro area or in Iowa for that matter I highly suggest taking it to the gentlemen in the link below.

I am retired after 38 years with the Polk County Sheriff's Office and was looking for a new career plan to keep me busy.
I have been detailing cars and trucks my whole life. I have done it as a side job for profit while working as a Deputy Sheriff for many years. I also have a great deal of experience maintaining my own vehicles.
I enjoy working with cars and have found detailing to be very rewarding.
Our vehicles say a lot about us. I would love the opportunity to make your vehicle shine like new. When your car is clean, it makes driving it that much more pleasurable.
I am honest, hardworking and would love to earn your business.

As an UBER drier I've taken my car to numerous places and his work is hands down the best I've ever had done on my car. He gives discounts to those willing to pay cash/paypal- If you tell him I referred you I'm sure he'll knock off a little bit more his already cheap prices. His vehicles are freakin immaculate when he gets done, be sure to take a look at his pictures on Facebook.

Know a dude in Marion, does it out of his house. Does good work and is a Cyclone fan. PM me if you want his name/number.

I've heard really good things about Budget on Council Street as well. Haven't been there for a detail yet but I know the owner and would vouch for them.

Is taking care of winter salt ground into the carpet generally part of the basic service or do you have to pay extra for that? I have gotten it out myself with the wand on a carpet cleaner but it takes forever to get that hardened salt out of the fibers. It might be worth it to take it to a detailer once a year.

Another topic, but have you tried WeatherTech floor liners? Custom-fit to your vehicle. Pricey but worth every penny. www.weathertech.com

Hopefully no one at the IRS or Iowa Department of Revenue is reading this!

Do you also assume all gas stations that charge less for their gas if you pay with cash are not paying taxes on it as well? The guy has worked as Polk County Sheriff for 38 years, he's a law abiding citizen don't worry

I'm not sure which one of you already called the guy I mentioned on the first page, but I appreciate you giving him your business. He does amazing work and is the most meticulous person I've ever met when it comes to vehicles and his prices are much cheaper than industry standards.

Cpech - I went ahead and made an appointment with him for next week. I liked what I saw between your post and his facebook page. I'll report back to CF once I get the car back - would love to share a positive story.

I used Mister Carwash a couple times and was very disappointed. They did a very lazy job and cut as many corners as they could. I would never use them again.
