At Houston is the biggest road game since _____?

And the South Carolina and Tech games were similar. They just had a habit of getting in a funk and not being able to get out of it.
Hoiball would always struggle against terrible teams like Tech and South Carolina who would slow the pace and make the game as ugly as possible.

It also seemed like we had issues getting motivated on the road with hardly any fans there.

I think that specific team just had some issues with egos and dysfunction that didn't let them get out of a funk.

There were some rumors from halftime of the UAB game and other things (but not verified iirc) and Niang hinted at it in an interview his senior year.

If you're having to appease some of that weirdness it disrupts a bunch of other aspects.

While it is a huge game, I'm hoping our guys are looking at it like it's just the next game on the schedule.

When you look at the remaining schedules for ISU, Houston, Baylor, and Kansas, I'd say we're in excellent position, but only if we win all the games we're supposed to win.

Whether we win or lose at Houston, if we finish the rest of our schedule really strong, we've got a chance to be in 1st place when it's over. It's not all riding on this one game.
Doesn't that require a 5-1 finish basically? I feel like it does to be where this board thinks they are already. Can lose Monday, but if they do, and lose any of the rest it allows the committee to push the team down, depending on 100 other game results of course. Conversely, win Monday and I suppose they could dump 2,although that would seem pretty disappointing too, after a UH win.
Basically, lots of games left and I have no idea. :explode:

Thinking about how many huge matchups/wins vs ranked teams we have had in Hilton recently had me wondering about Monday night's away game...

This game could go a long way for the winner in regards to grabbing the Big XII regular season crown. ISU's game in Houston is the biggest (most meaningful) ISU road game since ...?
I'll bite. Since Feb. 16, 2000, when we played Kansas in Lawrence. As I recall, and this is going off a dulling memory, we were either tied with Kansas for the conference title or were one game ahead of them and we hadn't beaten Kansas in Lawrence in forever. I think that was the Jamaal Tinsley game where we were behind by 5 with like 2 or three minutes left in the game and he stole the ball 2 or three times in a row and scored layups at the other end. We wound up winning 64-62 to basically clinch the Big 12 title. We still had games left, and we lost the next game at Colorado in overtime (a trap game?), but didn't lose the conference lead. After that, we won at home vs. ranked Texas (was that the Fizer dunk over Mihm game?), beat ranked OSU in Ames and mediocre Tech and mediocre Baylor on the road to clinch the title.

This game is massive for so many reasons. The most obvious is the inside track to win a Big 12 regular season championship BUT even more for me would be the fact that if the boys can pull this off, they have a path for a 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Would still need to basically win out. The path would be there though.

Now I am not expecting a W as I think Houston is the second best team in the country behind UConn and it’s at their gym. But let’s roll it out there and see what happens.
Probably the biggest road game in the history of the program to be 100% honest for the above reasons. Sneak out of there with a win and you are HEAVY favorites to win the Big 12 outright. You also control your own destiny and are pretty solid favorites in all remaining games. More importantly, win in Houston Monday night and win out in the regular season, you are in play for a #1 seed (something that has never been accomplished in history of the program).

Amazing to think that conversation about a #1 seed is not completely crazy. I was optimistic about this year and figured we’d be a tournament team, but did not see us faring this well in conference. Especially after the lackluster performance in Florida.

In fairness, that was first decent opponents with quite a few new faces on the team. And think I (and plenty of others) underestimated the impact of Ward being out.

The last few minutes of that Tech game are on YT.

They were behind with about 7 minutes left and then had to seal it with free throws.

Basketball is hard.

That ESPN tournament may have been exactly what this group and staff needed and having a week between and the DePaul game almost feels calculated.

I would say the 2017 game at KU. Burton goes off then ISU wins their next 7 of 9.......finishes tied for 2nd and wins the conference tourney.

Was there much build up to that one?

ISU had been just kinda so-so and looked dead in the water until Burton started hitting 3s.

It definitely was a turning point though.

Even if we lose Monday night Houston has to go to Baylor on Saturday and we host West Virginia.

It's very likely a week from now we are still tied at 10-4 with 4 games left.
I don’t see them losing to Baylor. Could they? Yes, but I don’t think they will. I think Houston wins out.

I think Houston will slip up somewhere. I don't think any team in the Big XII will win out from this point on tbh. There's just too much parity night in, night out.

I just hope ISU can be the one to beat HOU instead of trying to rely on someone else to do it for us.

That was another one, but it was also after they blew that massive opportunity against Baylor at home.

Things were still good, but the BU game took a little wind out of our sails, both fans and team
C'mon Cyched, this ain't the Hoks--I'm sure we had more than 2 fans LOL
