Arrest warrants for two former hawks

Does this honestly shock anyone? Research has shown that excessive use of marijuana can lead to loss of memory. Thus it would be easy to forget about being arrested for drugs and having a court date to remember. :jimlad:

If I remember correctly Nelson was supposed to be the next "big thing" at Iowa.... For once the prophecy came true, just not in the sense hawk fans were hoping for.

From the article "Nelson and Cleveland were arrested in February 2008 and dismissed from the team in March.". I though Ferentz didn't discipline players?

depends on the crime, starting lineup and/or if you are his son.

When the number of players arrested is over 20, do you want to stake your case on 2 players?

20? I bet it is near 50 if you go back to the first day of the KFs HC tenure at the UofI

Exactly.

You see what's happening here...cherrypicking.

So many posters on this site repeatedly claim that KF doesn't punish starters or key contributors, so this is a prime example that he does. James Cleveland would have been a huge contributor last year (3rd wr at least possibly starting wr). He was their 2nd leading wr in 2007-08. Arvell Nelson would be the backup qb right now and would have had a chance to compete with Stanzi for starting qb.

It's not cherry picking; it's proving all of those poster's wrong.

punish starters != possibly starting or backup qb or chance to complete with ...

There is no way he would be competing for the starting spot...that's why Christiansen left.

My guess is if you wander over to the hawk boards and look around March '08 - alot of talk about how they didn't need them, they weren't that good, Stanzi or Christensen and DJK have the starters role locked up.

It's also a little funny that the accusers in this thread didn't even recall this as an example of kf discipline til the Gazette put it in print. (probably as surprised as anyone).

But good for kf - although I imagine his hands were tied. Reading from the articles - sounds like both were arrested in their dorm rooms with possession. Too late for him to get somebody to move in with them and cleanup things up.

That is why I said starters or key contributors!:wideeyed: If you think the 2nd leading wr is not important to the team than you have a good point!

Going into the 07-08 season Stanzi and Nelson were listed as equals on the depth chart. There was not separation as to who was 2nd string.

Well, considering that Nelson was ahead of Stanzi when Jake was the starter, you have to believe that he would have definitely been in the conversation at the beginning of the season.

And as stated above, Cleveland was the second leading receiver and a very important part of the passing game.

KF does punish players when they screw up, regardless of importance to the team.

I wouldn't disagree with that but Brodell was trying to come back from a nasty hamstring injury and Cleveland was designated as the starter had Brodell not returned. I'm not sure DJK had it locked up at the time, but whatever.

Nice attempt at humor.
