Are there any players on your team this year that you believe would belong on ISU's all-time roster? (Crosspost from reddit)

Like the title says but if you are building an all time great roster for ISU are there any players you'd take from this years team?

TJ Tampa would be a for sure. A lot of guys that can be all timers but not there yet; Cooper, Brahmer, etc.

I could see an argument for Contreraz or even Perkins. Both guys have been lights out this year but this is probably recency bias. Just nice to not have to worry about the special teams this year.

Tampa absolutely. Noel and Orange are probably in the conversation.

Brahmer is too early to say, but could be by the time his career is over

Huh?

Tampa, yes.

Noel? He's good but not for me. Presuming you can only have 4 receivers and not like 10-12 then he's a no. Now if you say we have 8-12 and are going two to three deep on the all time, then sure. If we're talking pure starters, then no, he's unlikely to get there.

Lazard, Butler, X & and then personality and everything else aside guys like Danielson, (Sp), Whitver, Moses (a personnel favorite) are all above Noel. Which isn't a slight meant at him just my honest opinon.

And Brahmer... again, a very talented young man but I don't know that he beats out Charlie or some of the the other TE's.

That's like saying Sama's talented and could be our best RB ever - its not a slight when we've had some really good players at some of these positions.

I said Noel was in the conversation, but I would still put Lazard and X above him on the roster.

And Brahmer “could be” - again I’m not saying I’d put him above Kolar (high bar) but I love what he’s shown so far

Noel is 8th in receptions and 18th in receiving yards on ISU all-time list. He could easily move into the Top 5 of both categories before his career is over. Noel needs 800 more receiving yards to move past Charlie Kolar into 5th all-time.

Sure. But I also don't just go on stats. Because as with every stat, there are more games, more wide open offenses..... I don't ignore the greatness of the current generation, but for me, it also has to be more than just stats.

When I watch with my eyes, not including stats - my eyes say if I had to pick between Noel or JJ Moses, I'd take JJ. Perhaps I'm wrong about that. But JJ's wiggle and ability to make people look dumb in space is TBH not something I think we've had a ton of from the wide receiver room.

Big, physical receivers who can embarass a defender and just body them (Butler, Lazard, to some degree X) sure. But that guy whose going break ankles on the field? We haven't had a ton of those so I'm probably biased.

Noel has gotten a lot bigger and stronger this year while not losing any of his quickness. I wish we had him 2 more years, but next year will be his last. He was never red-shirted which doesn't help his career totals. His kick returns have really helped us win games this year.

Tampa's the only 1 set in stone with guys like Freyler close and several young guys who have the potential to get there. Becht, Brahmer, Orange and Cooper are first to mind in potential. And don't get me wrong Becht is a massive long shot to pass Purdy.

Noel has been great this year but has to much to climb to catch Lazard, Butler, X, Blythe and Danielson IMO.

Tracy Henderson and Luther Blue would be tough to displace from an all-time list.

There is no one currently that belongs on all time cyclone roster at the moment. If we’re taking the standard 2 corners, im taking Ellis Hobbs and Leonard Johnson 10/10 times over T.J. Tampa and that’s no slight on Tampa. Those two were better corners and both were 4 year starters. Freyler you can possibly make an argument for, but still too early to tell. No one else I can even see having a conversation about at the moment. I would take Lazard, Butler, Moses, Danielson, Blythe, Henderson, and D. Jones without hesitation over Noel at WR and I’m sure a few more.

Lots of recent bias in this thread. The question was the ALL-TIME cyclone list, right? Tampa is the only one that is even close at this point. Rocco or Samu could maybe get there but they are both big maybes given they even have competition in their own rooms.
Edit: Brahmer probably has the best shot of the freshmen.

Noel is 8th in receptions and 18th in receiving yards on ISU all-time list.
Not necessarily his fault, but the discrepancy in these two stats is why Noel is nowhere close. A majority of his career has been bubble screens for 2 yards. It's getting better, but he'd have to have a monster year and a half to be in the conversation.

Tampa for sure. Freyler is almost there, we’ve had quite a few good safeties over the past but I think he’s the best of them.

Not sure what the overall goal is here...are we trying to determine if these underclassmen have a higher unproven ceiling than ISU greats at each position or if you'd take one of these players right now as your all ISU team? If it's the latter then really only Contreraz is in the conversation...but I don't disagree some might be worthy of discussion once their ISU careers end.

Yeah,.....is this "roster" the full roster or just starters? That probably changes things a bit as we have probably a dozen receivers on our FULL roster (and same with other positions, etc).

Tampa and Contrarez probably the only two that have a shot
