Anyone else watch Martinez Denmon & the Clones destroy Iowa at the Hilton in 1971-72 Season?

I watched it on TV in northeast Iowa ...
became an instant convert from Hawkdom to the Clones .. I attended /graduated from ISU after seeing that initial electric win and crowd. It would be great if someone could pull some video on that game and post it...one for the ages!

It was, went to my first concert there. Mason Profit with an unknown band opening for them called The Doobie Brothers.
I saw Elton John there also at that time ...Hilton was a great venue! I am glad Jamie is spending some coin to refurb and upgrade!

Iowa State's basketball history would look a lot different if Maury John wouldn't have passed away. He probably would have had a 15-20 year run with multiple conference titles and a few final fours.
Great man..great Coach. Belly Button Defense...with a keen focus on outside shooting. Hmmm ...kinda sounds like TJ.

I've told a lot of people about that concert. We had no idea who the Doobie Brothers were, but when they got done nobody was really interested in staying around for Mason Profit. The best thing about it was that the concert was free. And over the next few years many of the songs the Doobie Brothers performed that night became big hits.

Check out the roster for 71-72 :

Hell, check out that non-conference schedule that includes Arizona, Minnesota, Drake, #1 UCLA at Pauley, Iowa, #10 USC and Arkansas.

Tried shooting some game pics back in March 1972 at Hilton. Between light, film, and for crap Vivitar lens the pics were so-so. It was fun looking up the players and remembering these guys.

I'm not sure I've ever seen a 3-point game referred to as "destroying" the opponent.

Iowa State didn't archive their teams very well back then, it looks like. K-State did.

Here's an interesting compilation of the KSU 71-2 team. You can see Iowa State's team here and there thruout I think. I stopped watching at about the 8.40 mark.
K-State 1971-72 Basketball - YouTube

ISU at .54, 5.33, 6.10, good clip of ISU from 8.15-8.40. KSU game w/ Missouri is at 8.40

Cool photos, thanks for sharing.

Secondary detail, always fascinating to see how fans dressed in those times (I've seen it in old FB pics, too). "Team gear" non-existent compared to modern era.

Thanks ..excellent pictorial journey back thru time!

2 point buckets back then...no 3 pt shots...it was a uptempo game throughout...Hawkdom was crushed by losing at the new Hilton.. they were still playing in the old fieldhouse. I stand by what I saw.

Isn't that the same CY they used until the early 90's? Love it!
