Any idea what contractors are charging per square shingles?

Got a small flat roof 3 square getting estimate of 700 per square with new decking drip edge etc. Did my last roof 20 years ago hiring it done even though its a small job.

Just paid $410 per square to replace an older section of our roof last week in the Twin Cities metro area. Included new roof vents, plumbing boots, chimney flashing, and a small decking repair. I thought that price was decent. The same contractor quoted $300 per square 4 years ago so prices have definitely increased.

Most other contractors wouldn't even give us a quote since we weren't filing an insurance claim.

I definitely wouldn’t put shingles on a flat roof. I can’t believe a contractor would agree to that.

Those are always a tough decision. I shingled my way through summers during HS and ISU.

I wouldn't consider putting shingles on anything less than a 4/12 pitch roof. Much less than that and you are just asking for ice damage.

Edit: Don't get me wrong, I've seen it done, but you severely reduce the life of the shingles.

And wind damage, wind-blown water infiltration, etc. There are much better underlayment options now though.
