I just noticed that weather.com has cancelled the winter storm watch and upgraded it to a winter storm warning starting tomorrow at noon. They are saying 5-8 inches of snow and blizzard like conditions on Thursday with all the snow blowing around and really cold wind chills. It seems like we are in the pattern to have "one of those" winters. Cold temps and a lot of snow.

Here is good old Earl's 120 hour snow totals....

Charlie Freese said before noon he was thinking 5" for Central Iowa but it will be the light fluffy stuff. Then it is supposed to cool down to below zero highs for Thursday/Friday and winds come up. Visibility won't be good then I'm betting

Yeah, 5+ inches of that stuff blowing around is going to make travel really interesting. Nasty cold wind chills will make it dangerous to be out and about.

I'm wondering if the really cold temps is the reason why they seem to be quick to pull the trigger on the warning this time. Like maybe if it was 25 degrees and windy and they were thinking 5 inches, they wouldn't have the warning.

Is there a website where we can see data of total accumulated snow from all the storms so far this winter?

How sad is it that I'm excited at the prospect of highs in the 20's starting Sunday and into next week?

It's seems like the last 5 years the winters have been horrible in Iowa....last year was the coldest I can remember -20's and some spots -30's. The day we moved away from Ames to Iowa City we had that massive ice storm and then a couple days later a massive snow storm that shut down hwy 35...I think that was 2006 or 2007.

Of course as soon as I move to St. Louis they have the coldest weather in a decade.

Yup, National Weather Service is saying 3-5 tomorrow and 1-3 tomorrow night and winds picking up Wednesday night. We'll see what we really get though.

If you get back and I'm not here, me and Stewo are stuck in a ditch on I80 between Chicago and Newton or I'm in the ditch on 35 or 80 between Ames and Newton.
