Ankeny
Need some input on good HVAC companies around the ankeny area. We have a furnace that went out on us yesterday (blower motor and capacitor need replaced). Anyone know of any good companies around that can help us out?

Service Legends has been my preferred choice for most of the last decade.

We had Holt install a new water heater over the summer and wanted them to do a new furnace/AC combo later but we had a really sour experience with them. We got Service Legends out for the furnace/AC and they have been great to work with. I really appreciate that they send a text/email with the tech's name, photo and a brief bio about the person coming to do the work in your home.

We've had good experiences with Kohles & Bach and 72 Degrees.

72 can get out there in pretty good time.

We had City Wide do a complete replacement of our HVAC based on recommendations and I'll be honest would not recommend them. Was not happy with our service.

I've had good experiences with Schaal in the past. If they can get there soon, I'd certainly add them to the list of possibilities.

Polk County Plumbing and Heating
Golden Rule Plumbing and Heating

Good experiences with either one

I don't give bad reviews often, but I quit using Polk County Heating and Cooling. They installed the system for our house a few years before we bought it. The AC wasn't keeping up during a hot humid stretch in the summer so I called him to check it out and walk me through the system since I've never dealt with a 2 stage heat pump. He basically just blew off my concerns as there wasn't much I could do in that heat and humidity. Still charged me $150 for the visit, but he never checked the system to make sure everything was pressurized properly.

The next year it happened again, only it wasn't nearly as hot and humid. I called Schaal, and there was a leak in the evaporator coil which was about 3 months out of warranty. It was probably leaking the year prior, when Polk County was there, but they never found it. It would have been under warranty.

We also had problems with our furnace igniting. Turns out the installer (Polk County Heating and Cooling) installed too small of an exhaust.

I've used greens and service legends. Service legends is good unless you need a new piece of equipment, then they're 50% higher than the competition (when we replaced our hvac system).

I'd recommend Greens or Northway's in Ankeny if you want a smaller guy that can fit you in quicker.

How are you heating your house? If you haven't yet, depending on your oven, you can turn that baby on bake or broil and have a fan in front of it to heat the house.

I used Schaal when my furnace went out in December. Replacement AC and Furance was installed in New Years Eve Day. Soo thankful I got it done when Indid...

Interesting seeing Golden Rule.
I really didnt care for them when they came to quote a project and it was a "if you dont agree this second then your quote is invalid" vibe.
Their pricing was tiered too where like a dozen things fit into that box vs just doing the job and paying for the parts. I haven't had that experience with any other hvac, electricians, plumbers.
