Andrews: RGIII should be used differently

First time I've ever seen a surgeon come out publicly with this kind of "statement".

That's good to see. Since Shanahan took such excellent care of RGIII in the playoffs, it's easy to imagine that it could go poorly again.

I can't entirely agree with this sentiment. RGIII has to be willing to be used differently just as much as Shanahan. Yeah, perhaps RGIII should have been played differently - if at all - during the playoffs last year. But even then RGIII was playing his game - reckless - when he was hurt for good. On top of that, it's not as if RGIII hasn't been openly petitioning to the media for Shanahan to give him greater involvement during this preseason.

No one was keeping him out of that game. I think the staff could have been more firm - but RGIII likely wasn't as forthcoming as he should have been with just how bad that knee was.

I'll agree with both that he owns that, too.
Maybe two stubborn heads here that self-destruct one another.

RGIII is a smart guy, doesn't anyone remember all the hype about his intelligence? Well, he is a big boy and can decide whether or not he should play. If he was hurt, it is on him.

Full disclosure, I really like RGIII, but don't like people not calling for personal responsibility. Kind of like football players not knowing that there is a possibility of long term brain damage.
