The NFL really needs to address rookie salaries. Whether it be Jake Long becoming the highest paid tackle in the game before ever playing a down, or idiots like Michael Crabtree wanting to be paid based on their prospective fantasy numbers, there needs to be a change.

You hit it on the head here, unfortunatly I dont think it will ever change. Thats why I dont buy NFL stuff or go to any games, these bozo's arent getting a dime from me, untill it changes

I don't have quite as bleak of an outlook. Goodell has expressed interest in limiting rookie pay, and you would think that the players union would be in favor as veteran salaries would likely go up. It may not happen next this year, but I think it is on the horizon.

The NFL can make rules, but until they find a way to keep agents from putting unrealistic pictures into the heads of these kids, nothing is going to change. I'd be willing to bet there wouldn't be a Crabtree situation if his agent hadn't told him to holdout for more.

Matthew Stafford: $41.7/6 = $6.9 mil, although I would almost guaranteed it's structured such that he's not getting $6.9 mil in year one.

I hardly blame that on Stafford, though. First, Brady is in year 5 of a 6 year, $60 mil contract that was signed in 2005, so Stafford isn't making more than Brady to begin with. Second, Stafford was the #1 pick, where Brady was a Mr. Irrelevant from 10 years ago. Who knows how much Brady will be paid when he resigns. Third, it's not like Stafford held out to get this contract.

So I think the pay is out of line? Certainly. Am I going to blame Stafford for signing an out-of-line contract that was offered to him? Hardly.

no, it's not the player's fault. They are just gettting the best deal they can within the system. the system is at fault.

They said that but it was misleading because Brady's contract is larger after bonus'. I am a Niners fan and I really hope they don't sign Crabtree. Then he has to go into next year's draft and I believe it will be much stronger not to mention no one will want to pick him in the top half of the first round at least and then he will come out with way less money. I believe they will sign him, but he is nontheless, a punk.
