So the HS principal is out immediately? What the hell is going on there? Just saw an article about increased fights. I assume related?

15 months in, Valerie Nyberg out as Ames High School's principal, 'effective immediately'

The district did not immediately provide a reason for the change in leadership. A "longer-term solution for the building" was still in the works.

New HS principal fired immediately in year 2

Not a good look.
 
She was an admin at my Alma mater after I graduated and apparently is a nightmare to deal with for staff members.

A principal in my kids school was punched, knocked to the ground and then the student started kicking him. All while several of his male buddy teachers watched. No one separated them due to a potential lawsuit of putting your hands on a student.

Prior to the video, Nyberg confiscated her phone, it appears. Girl bumps into her, calls her a ***** (maybe repeatedly), follows her down the hallway screaming, bumping, and trying to get the phone back. Nyberg just quietly at this point keeps walking.

It's kind of like a badly written 80s high school movie, but without over the top violence thrown in.

Have parents actually won lawsuits in these type of situations? That’s ****** up.
 
She has been a disaster, my wife works in the district and it was not a good hire.

Unsure. I know of bus drivers who have stopped the bus and grabbed a kid by the arm/s and returned them to their seat (no slamming or high amount of physical contact) and they have been fired.

I was curious why no one just stepped between the kid and the principal and took a couple hits/kicks to allow him to get up. The kid was about a buck thirty so it wasn’t like a big bruiser.

At the very least it can be a bad PR deal for the school since the entire story won't get out.

This isn't to say the kid in the situation deserves to be thrown under the bus either...they've likely got to be in quite a place to go to that level and who knows where the root of it all is.

Things are just really ****ed.

This kid was given a suspension for it. Know he dropped out a little later. Think it came down to his coat, was into goth and wanted to wear a trench coat.

I didn't see any other teachers in the video who could have helped, though - I may have missed some?

Not at all sure what happened prior to the video or after, and the child may have had a bad home life.... but it was hard to watch that video. I'd be enraged at my child if they acted like that.

Also, to the point of the thread - I'm not at ALL saying it was a good hire, as I don't know. But I do know that the statement from the district didn't specifically say who requested the termination of the employment. It sounded like a firing - but after the video yesterday, it could have been Nyberg.
 
Isn’t Campbell’s wife like president of the PTA in Ames or am I way off on that?
