It has to be the DH or something that prepares the American League players or something, because I dont know how else they could be this dominant...
A couple of years, just plain luck. I also don't think the National League has quite the "elite" closers the American League does. Papelbon and Rivera are two of the best in the business, and Nathan isn't a slouch. If the National League doesn't have the lead going into the 7th, they're in trouble because those are 3 lock down guys. The National League has very solid closers, but I don't think you can really make an argument that any of the National League's closers are clearly better than any of those 3. Hoffman of old? Yep, one of, if not the best ever. Hoffman now? Not who he used to be.

I picked the Tigers over Twins because I like Verlander and Jackson (this is without Bonderman) over Blackburn and Slowey or Buehrle and Danks. If I'm not allowed to take the Tigers, I'm taking the Sox because I like their pen. Looking at stats tells me there really isn't a wrong way to go. Very similar ERA's for the Tigers and Sox, and more importantly in my mind, only one quality start difference.
I think the Giants get in because they've got two STUDS at the front of the rotation, and their division has the second and third worst teams in the National League. I don't see the Rockies holding on for long after the break because their pitching is too on/off. The Giants have essentially split the season series so far with the Dodgers and I expect that to continue (won 4/9). I think the NL East will keep beating down on each other which won't allow two teams to break away to get the wildcard.

I didn't realize the AL got to implement the DH last night, considering the game was played in St. Louis... :huh:
I would love to pick the Twins to win the division, but they've got a 10-game West Coast swing coming up, and considering how poorly they've played on the road this season, it's not inconceivable that they could be out of the race before August 1 rolls around. Fortunately for the Twins, they are off until Friday (should get some much needed rest in), and this stretch includes 4 games against the Angels (who they have seemed to "own" lately).
The NL East is going to come down to who is healthy enough to win the division. I give the advantage to the Phillies simply because the Mets may be too far back to come back before they get all of their key pieces back from injury, and I think the Braves are just too young and the Marlins are just too inconsistent to compete with these two teams this year.
I think the AL West will be the most compelling division in the second half - only the A's are really out of it. It will be interesting to see whether Seattle sticks with it to the end of the season or if they begin trading off parts at the trade deadline.

Who gives a rip who wins the all star game? In the last 12 years the NL has won 5 World Series. That is what really matters. Sure they are still behind the AL but not that much behind
Yankees can beat the White Sox, they can't beat the Red Sox if their life depends on it right now (0-8 on the year).
