I remember a junior guard for Iowa State, Mike Nurse to be exact, that frustrated the heck out of me in the 98/99 season trying to play the point. The following season, Jamaal takes over the point and Mike Nurse becomes one of the greatest shooting guards we've seen in a long time.

Could we see that again. I'm not saying Diante Garrett is going to be the next Jamaal, BUT, it will be nice to have a true point guard next year...and maybe, just maybe we'll see Mike Taylor turn into a dynamic 2 guard.

When was it Mike got nailed on Lincoln Way? Maybe MT needs to get sideswiped or something....(joking...)

98 as per the link above.

I remember that he was back for the next home game might have played vs UNI which was the next game. In the training room I asked him how we felt and he said something like "about the same as I would after a Big XII game" Priceless quote.

....minor injuries....a true point guard, whatever it takes. Seriously though....does anyone else remember the similarities? This is trying to be an optimistic post......we could be, Mike Taylor could be really special next year given a true point guard to run the show.

I think Mike Taylor has quite a bit more raw talent than Mike Nurse did. Nurse played a lot smarter and once he had a more defined (comfortable) role, he definitely excelled. I can see the similarites for sure. Taylor would be really good if he didn't have to create everything for himself. I personally like Taylor reguardless. I'll take the 5 turnovers with all he does.

I hope you're right on this, but don't forget we had some guy named Fizer helping to make that team pretty good. As much as I like WJ, he is not Fizer yet. That team was magic to watch. All the pieces melded after that loss to Drake early in the season.
